mkl - Don't be so hard on yourself about
not doing research and things like that! At 18, the last thing you want to be thinking about
is researching a chronic illness/what is wrong with you. But the people at UPMC in all departments are topnotch, really easy to get an appointment with and all around great.
I LOVED Dr. Baidoo while I was there. He's very good about
being proactive about
testing and harassing you when it's time to have something done until you let him do it. I was planning on trekking out to Pittsburgh to see him from Philly, but things just fell through with insurance and I can't afford out of pocket on my student loans. But he was keen enough to order a CTscan before my insurance ran out and caught a stricture (even though I've been in clinically remission for years), which started bothering me a few weeks after I left Pittburgh. So I'm glad we did it. All around, he's a great doctor, on top of his research and really treats his patients with a lot of respect and he actually listens, which I think some doctors forget to. Hopefully, you'll have as good an experience as I had.
