Hair Loss?

I have been on Humira since April, so about 4 full months. After about a month or two I started noticing my hair was shedding more then usual- I really thought it was my imagination at first. Well, now I know it isn't all in my head and it's starting to make me nervous. Just now my fiance was rubbing my head and then I ran my fingers through my hair afterwards and literally pulled out a small clump. My hair isn't visably thinning (yet) thankfully and I will be talking to my Dr tomorrow but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this as a side effect? FYI I am also on Entercort and Pentasa but never noticed this before the Humira.

Well I just got out of the hospital actually, from another obstruction. But I had 5 of these obstruction "episodes" before going on humira and never had any hair loss. Overall I am not really any different than I was before starting Humira. I haven't (for example) lost a lot of weight or anything that would indicate out of control bad health contributing to this.

I had the same problem two years ago. It turns out that about 1% of people on Pentasa are likely to have thinning of the hair. Its AWFUL. I had all this beautiful curling long brown hair that I loved so much since it was the only super eye catching thing I was egotistical about. Now its cut to my shoulders with long layers. It still curls but I can't let it get too long or the weight of it starts making it come out so much in the hairbrush that a person would feel nauseous about. Hopefully this isn't what's happening to you.

You do know that if you have disease in your teriminal illium oral b-12 has less then a 2% absorbing rate.

I was actually asking if you have had the blood tests to see if you have enough b-12 and folic acid. Oral meds do not always work well with this disease.

Yes I think its more than likely the Entocort and/or Pentasa. I take the sister med to Pentasa called Asacol and my hair has been shedding quite a bit more than normal, even my hairdresser has noticed. I had surgery July 6th for something unrelated to my Crohns and I think because the surgery took so much out of me it has gotten even worse. I have heard that extra Folic acid and Biotin will help to slow it down. I tried both before and they upset my delicate stomach, so I think this time I will try just the Folic Acid alone and see how I do with that. Good luck and hugs, I understand how you feel.
