Diet after op!

Hi all,

Don't want to keep harping on ....but, just wondering about diet after resection ...what will be on my menu the next following weeks? ...apart from soup and pudding lol

The usually start you with clear liquids, then full liquids, then work you up to a regular diet as you tolerate it. Go slow is my suggestion, as your body has to adjust to the changes. Since my surgeries, I have found that a low residue diet seems to work best for "me". Please know that you will have to figure out what works best for "you". Maybe things you could eat before, now you can't and vice versa. Hugs!

I just had surgery, and made sure that I had some Ensure in the house for when I got home. I also like Progresso chicken soup, and macaroni and cheese once I get past the purely liquid stage. Make sure you get plenty of liquids and keep your electrolytes in balance. Good luck!

I had a bowel obstruction in Jan, followed by a Cdiff infection in June .. and then after reading i cut out wheat and for the last 4 weeks have felt great .. why not try in addition to a low residual diet?

My surgeon told my Dad to go get me ice cream when I stopped being NMB!

I had no instrctions at all but obviously nothing spicy!!!

once I was released frpom the hospital I had no instructions either. but while in the slowly, and i mean slowly worked me up to eating regular food.

Start with a soupy food. For me, I only wanted Spaghettio's when I could finally eat solids. I don't know why but it helped me learn to eat again. Half a can at breakfast, half at lunch and then I tried a different meal for dinner which I at at two settings as well. To be fair, last time I came out of a surgery and had to relearn to eat was when I was diagnosed and I was scared of whatever was wrong with me. I didn't know what Crohns meant. Since then, well, I learned fast because there isn't a lot of choice in the matter.

Thank you for all your comments ....appreciate the input :-) I reckon there will be a lot of pasta ....mashed potatoes and gravy ...and soups ..on the menu in our house for a few weeks lol !!

I was told to 'be smart'. Eat mostly easily-digestible foods and you should be fine. The day after I was discharged, I actually had some prime rib and had no problems.
