I need help finding a good GI in oregon. I'm 22 and have been suffering with Crohns for 5 years. I've been in and out of the hospital but managed to always avoid surgerys. I have been on every medication they have for crohns and only one works Humirra. I have strong allergic reactions to meds but this one seems to work. Right now I'm suffering with a fistulia and in the middle of a flare up. I'm having extremly heavy rectal bleeding and cramps up the wall. I've gone a soft food diet but nothing is working. They have me on antibiotics sterioids, and humirra... and the fistulia isnt' getting any better... My PA doesn't seem like he knows what he is doing and I have this stong feeling there is something he is missing... Please help!! I need a new GI!! and quick!

Hey Hunter - I'm 45 and had colon cancer at 38. I ended going to Dr. Mark Whiteford (Portland Area - google him) who specializes in "Sphincter Sparing" surgury - basically he is the guy that can remove a colon and save your butt. He ended up having to take mine clear out, but oh well. Great doctor.

I'm doing great and hope you do as well.

What part of Oregon are you in? I am in Souther Oregon and go to Dr Jacobson in Medford there are a number of other docs in the office as well he was the 1 i was able to get an appt with the soonest after I moved here

Hey, I'm 22 as well and live in Portland. I see Dr. Collins, at OHSU. She is an amazing doctor and has helped me get through some really tough flares and fistulas. She is hard to get into but if you are persistent it should pay off. She is on a couple boards for crohn's.

I live in Vancouver (WA), but my doc is in OR and I am super happy with him. He's with the Oregon Clinic - Portland, east side. His name is Dr. Michael Phillips, but I've heard great things about several other doctors there as well.

They also have a "sister" office over on the west side of Portland- Oregon Clinic, West Hills GI. I saw Dr. George Koval there, but again all the docs are supposed to be good.

The sister office has changed a lot in the last year. I ended up in the ERr 4 times in the last 10 months because their medical assistants were not passing messages on to the doc in a timely manner. George Koval is great but the bedside manner of Diane Williams is horrible. I just switched to a different practice because I don't like untrained medical assistants making medical decisions for me. The last straw was the assistant telling me to quit 40 mg of prednisone cold turkey. I also had a horrible time with that office sharing information with other doctors, especially with my colorectal surgeon.

Thank you guys so much!! I live in Lebanon Oregon but go to Corvallis Clinic to see PA Chris Bell. I'm going to look into all of these doctors... I need some help. There is something wierd though... today I noticed when I didn't take my antibotics for the fistulia I didn't have any rectal bleeding or cramping. Did this happen to any of you?

I see Dr. Daniel Phillips in Eugene at the NW Specialty Clinic located next to Riverbend Hospial, He happened to be the doctor on call when my intestines perforated in 2002 and I had to have emergency surgery and did not even know i had Crohns at the time. He is great and I have seen a few others from his group when I have been in the hospital.
