Prednisone not working ??

I have been on pred before and I dont remember it taking so long to work. I have been on it for 6 days and I still feel just as bad as I did before I started it. Am I wrong in thinking that I should be feeling better by now ? I have a dr apt on monday but I just wanted to ask you guys.

I'm pretty new to pred (only been on it for a week & a half), but for me it kicked in about 4 hours after I took the very first pill.  Good luck - hopefully it will begin helping you soon!

I am with you... its not working for me and it has always worked...I have been on and off it about 6x now in the last 8 months...this time its been a joke.

Sometimes it takes a while to kick in, but if you see no results in a few weeks I'd bet it isn't going to do much for you. In that case, you're probably steroid refractory now and will likely have to move on to biologics like remicade/humira +/- Imuran

Well I really hope that is not the case : ( I am on imuran now and it helps a little but not enough. Plus I have been on remicade and humira and they didnt work that great. I hope it will start working soon.

The first time I took prednisone it started working almost right away. This last time I took it I was on it for several weeks and it wasn't working. I was taking a dose of 30 or 40, but I ended up needing a couple of days on IV steroids to get it going. It might be that your dose is too low, or perhaps you need to add something else. I would tell your doctor on Monday at least, but if your symptoms are really a problem try calling his/her office tomorrow and ask what to do.

Prednisone usually works for me soon after increasing it, but when my bowel problems became strictures (scar tissue) which caused bowel narrowing, prednisone no longer worked even though I thought the pain was caused by inflammation, but it wasn't.
Has your doctor determined if you have any strictures?

No he hasn't .. but that is a thought ... I have lots to talk to him about on Monday ... I almost dont know where to start.
It's kind of like I am having to start all over again because, I had a baby 6 months ago and right before I got pregnant my dr and I thought it would be best to try to stop all my meds except pentasa. Everything was great, I was in remission untill I stopped nursing my baby. Now same old same old.
I wonder if my main problem is that I am stressing myself out over being sick and having to take care of my baby.
O well it is what it is and lots of us are having a tough time right now : (

I haven't really experienced any real relief from the predinisone for the roundabout 3 months of repeated tapers. I've got to talk it out with the GI when I get to see him next month.

I always feel signigicantly better in 4 hours and then realize the next day that even significantly better is a long way from normal.
It takes a while for normal. Oh, and dose matters-a lot.
