Hi, I just joined the healing well site and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike, I am 50 and have been a sufferer of IBS and Crohn's for at least 15 years now. I had a bowel resection about a year and a half ago and seem to be doing OK. Like everyone I am trying to find out what is new and improved, so here I am. Thanks and good luck to all.

Hey Mike!! Welcome to the best Crohns forum out there. You will find alot of love and support from our great members who all understand what you are living with.

I myself have lived with this dd (darn disease) for almost 35 years. When I finally came out of remission I was surprised that the treatments were basically the same as I had had before. But now there are meds like Imuran/6mp, Remicade, Humira, Cimzia etc. What's sad though that Pred is still one of the first meds they give you when flaring.

I see that you had a resection a year and half ago, what maintenance meds are you on now? You should always be on some type of maintenance med at all times. Because if you are not treating it, and you may be feeling well, but the Crohns is always there doing its damage on a microscopic level. That happened to me, and I ended up with an emergency resection. Not fun! So my best advice is always to treat your Crohns at all times.

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am currently on Asacol 2- 400 mg tabs 3 times a day. My Dr. wants to stay with what he called the less aggressive meds first so that's what I am doing. All I can say is so far so good.
Wow 35 years is a long time I guess you have a lot of things you have been through. Do you know about excessive sweating? It has become a real problem for me day and night. I work in construction and in the hot weather I go through at least 4 or 5 tea shirts a day that are completely soaked. I said something to my Doctors and they just shrug their shoulders... If you have any ideas I would be so grateful.
I just had a blood test because I had a Prostate infection and they found that my White blood cells and platelets are low. If you know anything about this that would be great too.

Welcome, Mike!

Are you on steroids (Entocort, pred) still? I found that those meds made me perspire a lot. It was both annoying and embarrassing.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you better.

Thanks for the welcome. Ivy, I have only been on asacol and I'm not sure if it is the pills or Crohn's that is doing it. When I asked my Prim care Dr. he thinks that it could be the pills but suggested that I ask my GI Doctor. When I did he did not seem to have a real opinion.
Not sure what to do but I need to do something.

Hey Mike, I am maintained on only Asacol myself and I can tell you it doesn't give me the sweats. But thats not to say that the Asacol isn't causing it in you. But....I think if you type sweating and Crohns in the search box above, I think I have seen posts about this subject. If you aren't on Pred, I think it may just be the disease, but thats only a guess. Hope you stay with us, with are a great group. Hugs!

I think your right all things seem to indicate that it is the disease that is making me sweat. I guess I'll hang in there, wait for cooler weather and keep on smiling. Good luck and keep the faith

Welcome Mike! Sorry to meet yet another person having to deal with Crohn's, but you've found a wonderful forum with tons of helpful and caring people.

I tend to agree that sweating is part of crohn's itself rather than specific meds. While I do live in Atlanta, GA and it is way too hot here, I sweat more than any of my female friends. It also seems that a lot of us have expressed concern about the sweating, and we are on different combinations of medicines. It stinks (no pun intended!) that there are things that we just have to learn to deal with. I, too, am looking forward to the cooler fall and winter weather!

I see you had and emergency resection and appendectomy. So did I. I went in for an emergency appendectomy and when I woke up they gave me the good news about how he had to remove a large section of my bowel, but for about 4 days we were not sure if it was cancer or not. So in someway I have always felt lucky that it was just Crohn's . Never thought I would find that to be lucky but I guess when you look at the options, it is. (except for the pain)
Anyway I'm glad to meet you and look forward to more talks.
