My extremely tactless GI that told me Humira pens shouldn't burn has me panicked again (don't worry I'm in the process of looking for a new GI). At that same visit I told her that I have had more headaches accompanied with nausea lately. I know the 2 often come together and wanted her input to see if she thought it was an effect from the CD itself, the medications (I had just switched to Humira), the extreme Texas heat, my dietary changes etc. The first thing out of her mouth is "it could be a brain tumor". I thought this was a ridiculous response and did my best to ignore the comment. I refused another abdominal CT scan because I have had so many, including 2 in the last 6 weeks. So instead she sent me for an abdominal ultrasound. It was clear except for a kidney stone I didn't know I had. Now she is insisting I see the neurologist, which I am going to do. I just wish she hadn't been so quick to throw brain tumor out there when there are so many other things it could be and she has me totally freaked.

These headaches are not as bad as migraines but definitely not comfortable. Has anyone else had headaches combined with nausea as a result of the Crohns or medicines? I'm just hopeful that she has me panicked unnecessarily.

Have these headaches and nausea started since you started the Humira in July? If so, I would think more than anything its the Humira. Your doc sounds like she isn't that great. Hugs! Hope you find some answers soon.

I live in Texas, too, and my fall allergies are in full swing. Lots of sinus congestion and even my asthma is flaring. So could it be that your headaches & nausea are due to sinusitis and post-nasal drip?

Another popular cause of headaches for me right now is perimenopause (I'm 48). They're as close to migraines as I ever want to be and sometimes make me nauseated.

I also get nauseated easily when my bowels are slooooooow.

Sorry your GI is such a dweeb. Toss her out! Where are you in TX?

I am in Austin Texas, which is notorious for allergies. While I dont have horrible allergies there are so many things that the headaches and nausea could be attributed to. I started Humira recently and those are side effects that are clearly listed. The heat has always contributed to my headaches and today its about 105 outside. I also just had my wisdom teeth removed last week. Also, right before I started Humira I got pancreatitis from 6MP. I know it could be any one of or a combination of things. I brought up to my GI that I was diagnosed with cyclical vomiting syndrome as a child. Its pretty much unexplained vomiting for short amounts of time that can be combined with abdominal pain and headaches. I know I cant be sure but my instincts tell me its more Humira related or the cyclical vomiting syndrome. While technically I'm not showing signs of active crohns disease, my abdominal pain has increaced since I made the switch from Remicade to Humira, which is just about the time this started.

Hi Jas, no offense meant, but your Dr is an idiot! I have been on Humira almost 5 months now. While I only get nausea occasionally, I do get headaches, sometimes pretty bad. It's not as bad as a migraine, but it feels like a vice is squeezing my head. They are worse in the 4-5 days after getting it, then seem to reduce in intensity until after I have my next shot. The shots do burn when they are going in. I personally don't find them too painful, but I know I tense when I'm getting ready to inject cuz I know it's going to hurt. I have to consiously relax and take some deep breaths. Sometimes I have my son do it so I can close my eyes and relax and not know when it's going to happen. He's 12, so he thinks it's cool to give mom a shot.

Please don't let this Dr freak you out. What you are going thru with the Humira is normal. Not fun, I know, but are known side effects of a very powerful drug.
