I got a rx for B12...but I'm wondering...can I just take it to any pharmacy to fill? Or does it have to be filled at a specialty pharmacy like Humira is?

I go to a regular pharmacy for humira and b12 so idk how things are where you are when I was in RI i went to CVS now that I am in Oregon I use Riteaid

My regular pharmacy fills mine and my mom gives me the injection.

I have to order Humira through Curascript (it's Express-script's specialty pharmacy) because of my insurance. Maybe I'll call them and see if they do B12 so I can get 3 months at a time and it'll be cheaper.

I plan on giving myself the shots. I already do my own Humira shots, and B12 doesn't hurt as much as that, so I'm not too worried about it.

I get mine at Walgreens. It's just a vitamin not really a specialized drug such as Humira.

I'm gonna call Walmart's pharmacy in the morning and make sure they have them before I go up there. That would be convenient since all my other meds are there.

Hey all....another question. I took my rx to Walmart, and it looks like they fill the rx with vials that you have to then fill a syringe with. Do you have to buy syringes and draw up your B12? Does the pharmacy supply everything you need, or do you have to buy it separately? Just curious. I'm not worried about drawing up the dose or anything, but wondering about the supplies.

If you've got vials, you need syringes. I live in Taiwan and here we can buy syringes across the counter, but in the USA (I'm guessing that's where you are) I believe a prescription is needed to possess syringes ("War on Drugs," you know).

The only other thing you should have are some alcohol wipes (you could just use a piece cotton with rubbing alcohol dabbed on it). And last but not least, a little knowledge about injecting yourself. The B12 shot should be administered IM, so no need to hit a vein (indeed, you DON'T want to do that). I inject myself in the lower hip (near buttocks). The buttocks may be a preferable target, but for that you need a willing friend/relative to do it for you - difficult to reach back there when doing it yourself.

Thanks Robert. I plan on doing them myself, unless I can't reach, then I'll have a xray tech friend do it. I was thinking I'd do them in the thigh. If I can't do that, I have friends in medical fields who are able to give me the shot if. I already get alcohol wipes and gauze for my Humira, so I have that.

I guess I'll pick up the vials ahead of time so I have time to figure out how to get syringes...I don't have to do the first one for a few weeks still, and then will only have to do one a month.

You need a prescription for the syringes but my pharmacy provides them for free. The vials of B 12 are only $2.50 with my insurance, what a deal. I also get them in my arm. .
