stomach noises !!!

So glad I'm not the only one. I was up all night last night with my stomach 'talking'. I tried everything from a warm drink to walking around but it didn't stop, I'm on my knees now ! I also get pain with some of the noise, I know I have strictures and know its bowel contents forcing its way through narrowings. Mine is so loud sometimes my husband can hear it from the other side of the room over the TV ! It is very annoying.

I get these noises, I have two strictures I found out from a small bowl follow through. A lot of noises usually happen if i eat anything i shouldn't: insoluable or high fiber, fibrous fruits or vegetables, starchy things, caffeine. The things that help me (when I am good) and drastically reduce the bloating, sound and uncomfortablness of it all:
- Eat things that are low in fiber, stay away from insoluable fiber as much as you can
- No caffeine
- No Starches
- No fruits, vegetables unless they are easily digestable, non that are fibrous
- Eat yogurt
- drink more water, i enjoy mineral like figi or evian, more expensive and maybe in my head but somehow i feel better drinking these
- move around or lay down, whichever helps more
- This one is counter intuitive and I don't really drink often and haven't in a bit but I thought I'd mention if i go out with friends and drink a few rum and cokes, more so the rum than the coke, i wake up the next morning with the flatest stomach (no bloating) its odd but i think the rum now and then actually helps.

If I have been not good and have the noises and my back hurts or its bad its good to lay down on my stomach or in a weird position maybe one leg bent one leg down straight to help ease the pain. Also, since my strictures I no longer take any hard capsules as they seem to get "stuck" i go gummy or rapid release/gel type.

The noise can be caused by a stricture and/or bacterial imbalance, even when there is no pain. My daughter's rumbling quieted down a lot when she started eating yogurt. It went away completely when her stricture went away. 

This post has made me laugh this morning...I still remember sitting in an exam in college and my stomach was making horrible noises the whole time in this huge quiet lecture hall. It was so embarrassing! I just sat there the whole time and pretended like it was the guy next to me who must have been making the sounds.

On a related note, I think that if you're a guy, this is about the closest you can come to understand what it's like to carry a baby that hits you from the inside! I found the 2 sensations to be quite similar.

In my experience of 45 years since being diagnosed, the noises are very bad during any time of narrowing (before my 3 resections).  After surgery, the noises are pretty much gone (or should I say, happen more like "normal") If I start getting the loud noises again, that's when I'll know that I'm in trouble with narrowing again.  I pray that doesn't happen.   Just another of the many annoying, embarrasing, painful, frustrating things that comes along with this miserable disease.

Cherchezlafemme, I would think you should worry more about bacterial overgrowth not a stricture. I think I have some kind of bacterial overgrowth right now as I have had alot more sounds of late. Its nothing to be worried about. And my Crohns is in remission right now.

I didn't really have any abdominal noises prior to my resections & temporary colostomy in 2008. When I had my colostomy, it was pretty obvious when gas would pass into the bag, as someone stated earlier. It always happened when things were pretty quiet. I was lucky, however, that it didn't ever happen loudly while I was teaching a college course on sports medicine. Since my colostomy reversal, I have had more loud noises that I can tell when things are moving through. They always go right to left across the transverse colon. Sometimes the noises are accompanied by pain and a sudden urge to go. I love peoples' comments that I must be hungry, even though we are eating during a lunch meeting. I don't do yogurt (can't stand the texture and taste) or probiotics, any other suggestions. I've got an appointment with my doc coming up in a couple of weeks and will probably ask what his thoughts are then.

i am a university student with this problem where i keep hearing noises in the lower left side of my belly....it it very embarrassing. it feels like stuff is moving in there and the noises are different.
Does anyone have a solution for this? it worrying me that i may not be able to stop this problem and its stopping me from attending lectures and being in quiet areas...
