Earthquake and Colonscopy - not a great combination

Our city, Christchurch New Zealand, was hit by a substantial earthquake at the weekend. 

We were very lucky everyone is safe although it looks like my daughters house (she move in three months ago with her new hubby) is a write off it doesn't seem important when there was no loss of life, mainly due to the time it hit 5.30am.

I was pretty sure with the damage, esp to sewers, water, infrasture and aftershocks they would at least postpone my colonscopy due wednesday to a later date ... but no such luck ;P 

just hope my GI has a steady hand and the aftershocks settle down!

wonder why I am having a flare ... stress maybe ;P

I had hoped they might postpone but it has already been put off twice in the last month and it is getting to the point I really need to find out what is going on as it may be the resection site has collapsed.

It was first scheduled when I had an obstruction a month ago but got put off as my hubby had to dash to the UK (elderly parents crisis), then it got put off again when I got the flu and another obstruction so 3rd time should be the charm I guess.

I am really lucky it is still going ahead as with the post quake chaos most 'elective' procedures will be backlogged for weeks. My dear GI tells me I shall be one of the first procedures in the new endoscopy unit here and that it has weathered the earthquake well.

Just hope the aftershocks hold off for half an hour whilst his equipment is in my nether regions ;P

Two shallow but substantial aftershocks in the last half hour and just got the call the endoscopy unit has been shut down.

My awesome GI has been ringing round to see if he can get us in somewhere else so the prep was not in vain but I am not holding my breath - I am consisently blown aware by his dedication to the care of his patients - simply amazing.

While it is a real pity I had finished the prep I am actually quite pleased as I was slightly concerned a jolt during the procedure might do some damage I don't need on top of the crohns ;P

Yes, I saw a news report that said you could be in for some more big aftershocks, full strength.
I hope everything works out eventually. Sooner or later, Mother Nature will calm down for a few minutes!
