I saw this the other day. A new drug to help kill bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics. Its derived from something in a roach's brain. Please dont tell me the name of it because if they give it to me, I don't want to know. I would guess I could figure it out later when I have the urge to come out at night and scurry about
in the kitchen searching for crumbs and cooking oil residue . I'm waiting for the TV add to come out . Yep the fast talk at the end will say,,side effect may include , the growth of antenna, urge to eat from the floor, a fear of lights , odd smell , need to hide behind refrigerators . Call your doctor immediately , if you hear a , snap , when stepped on..This could be a sign of a rare but fatal condition .

On the plus side, you, along with the cockroaches, may be able to inherit the world after a nuclear war...

It really makes you wonder what made a person come up with the concept of this drug. I mean, does he or she look a roach and say,"I bet if I could take some of that roach's brain that I could come up with a medication to treat Crohn's disease."? Then again, how did the idea of using mice in remicade ever come to thought? This is why I don't ever plan on getting rich by discovering the cure for Crohn's. I just don't think outside the box enough to see a potential cure when I see a bug.

Geeez Randy, we have politicians that can do better than that. They can live a life time without a brain ..

I would rather have the moldy bread than the creepy crawly things that eat moldy bread. Guess we are better off not knowing where some of our meds come from. I know there is some Micky Mouse in my Remicade, but the need for cheese side effect is not bad. I'm sure there are far worse things but I would rather have plant extract than cooty extract . I did the pig pancreas treatment for pancreatitis and though I felt bad for the pig , I knew the rest of him was ham and bacon and pork chops. Cant say the same for the roach. I also know that horseshoe crab blood is used in med research. I have had to eat some odd things , by most peoples standards , but the will to survive is very persuasive and that goes for meds too I suppose, so if the lowly roach can save my life I guess I will do what it takes,,,but dont expect me not to step on one when I get the chance..

Antivenin for snakebite is made by injecting horses with venom and then extracting the antibodies they make. So if you get tagged by a copperhead and get the antivenin shots you can then enter the Kentucky Derby, or at least learn to eat hay.
