Hello. I've recently been diagnosed with 'severe' Crohn's and really don't have many symptoms at all which surprises my dr. I've always just been 'irregular'. Once in a while I have terrible stomach pains that almost feel like contractions! I seem to have to do my lamaze breathing during them. lol I'm wondering if this is the pain that everyone else has with their Crohn's? This seems to happen to me only once every 6 months or so and lasts about 1/2 day or so. Usually leading to diarreah.

Just not sure if this is the 'norm' for Crohn's pain. All this is new to me. I am wondering if there is a prescription for this kind of pain. I almost feel like I need a muscle relaxer or something like that.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Yes is it normal and one of the main symptoms. I take tramadol and it works very well.

Thank you Debbi! I've got a call in to my dr and hopefully he'll prescribe something that will ease up this pain. I'm fortunate that I only deal with this once in a blue moon. I'm sorry for the people who deal with this on a daily basis!!

I'm glad you get relief from the tramadol. Thanks for your reply. I wasn't sure if this was actually pain from Crohn's or what!

Your welcome! I'm like you, I only get the severe pain every few months or so. But when I get it its excrutiating! I always feel tender in the places where the crohns is. I got the tramadol for back pain but found it works well for abdominal pain too. Good luck!

I personally respectfully disagree with debbikay. I do not think that pain is normal at least not in this case. The labor pain type of pain that you are experiencing sounds more like obstruction pain. I have experienced a few obstructions and the pain is much like you described that comes in waves much like labor pains, no air or stool will move from either direction, extreme bloating looks like your pregnant, and then the nausea starts.

I think it sounds like you are at least having partial obstructions. You should discuss this with your doctor. You might have a stricture or narrow area going on in there. Good luck!

Thank you for that info Nanners. The dr's office got back to me and suggested maybe I go have a CAT scan in case I had an obstruction but, I explained that I've had this pain in the past and it usually passes after several hours. I told the office that it's more like spasms. I was told to go pick up a prescription for hyoscyamine which is an antispasmodic but, I have to make sure I call the office in the morning and let them know how I'm feeling. I took one of the pills even tho things were simmering down. I am still just having light twinges now and then.

Would I pass any stool if I had an obstruction? I did go a couple of times today. Also, I have no bloating or nausea.

I totally agree with Nanners, this type of pain is "classic" obstruction pain.  Both times I had an obstruction I had this pain like contractions, and yes, I did have gas and went to the toilet.  Went both times to the ER, and found out that these were partial obstructions (that's why I still had gas and bms), but still, there were obstructions which is not fun at all.  My advice is that if the doctor told you to have a CAT scan, you should do it.  Obstructions are not something to mess around with, plus in the hospital you will find immediate relief.

Thank you for that info Athensgirl2! I am wondering, if it is an obstruction or partial obstruction, would I feel ok today? I'm feeling good and was ready to call my dr to let him know. What do they do for partial obstructions? I'm assuming that for a complete obstruction they do surgery?
