Entocort for flare-up?

I have another post going regarding my Daughter having low hemoglobin. After being assessed today, our GI determined that she has inflammation in her TI. She's been on Imuran for the last 2 yrs. and hasn't had any issues. 2 Yrs. ago, she had a major flare-up which resulted in an abdominal abcess. I'm of the opinion that she was undermedicated at the time, (only on Pentasa), and not that she presents as a severe case. I hope that's the case anyway, a Parents wishful thinking I suppose.

Our GI has prescribed Entocort, while remaining on Imuran. Does anyone have any experience with Entocorts effectiveness? I'd really like some opinions on this strategy. I know from experience what can happen if you're not being effectively treated.

I was on both Entocort and Immuran for a few years and it worked great for me.. I have crohns of the TI as well... I eventually tapered off the entocort after a while.. and was on the imuran only for almost 2 years... the imuran is there to help the entocort and to eventually get you on the lowest does possible or god willing off it all together.

I just started my first major flare in 4 years and now once again back on the Entocort with my Imuran now... it worked very well for me with no real side effects.

this therapy is definately worth a try... I will never go back on Prednisone if I can ever help it

I think it's the correct course of action. Of course, I took Entocort and it didn't do much for me, but that may be because I (possibly) had issues in places other than the TI.

Son was on pentasa and entocort and then azathioprine was added in(and entocort weaned off) In his case all the entocort did was plaster him in acne and did not appear to make much difference to the stomach troubles. For him the pentasa and azathioprine are a good combination-consultant did suggest that he no longer needed pentasa cause he was on azath, he stopped taking them and he certainly paid for it. Now he is back on the two, things are running pretty smoothly again.
Unfortunately it appears that different combinations work for different people.

They are very reassuring. There seems to be differing views on the effectiveness of Pentasa, (vixen). Our last GI really promoted the use of it, even after it failed. She felt that it worked together with Imuran somehow. 

Our new GI, (who I like very much), doesn't advocate the use of Pentasa at all. She cut my Daughters Pentasa in half, and then this flare came about. Maybe it's a coincidence, but I'd prefer to continue the Pentasa with Imuran.

Actually Entercort worked great for me but pentasa was never very effective at all. The only reason I ever wanted to get off entercort was because of weight gain, I actually really felt much better on this drug.

Tom many people have had the same issue. They think the 5ASA med is not working, then stop it only to have the CD flare again. I had that happen to me when I was off Asacol for a bit. I stay on it all the time now. Good luck!

Yes, I seem to see this pattern in the many posts I've read over on this. I'm going to urge our GI to continue with Pentasa, after this flare-up gets under control.

It maybe that getting back onto the regular dose of Pentasa may be all she needs to get back to feeling better. JMHO
