Please help!! I work at a very large hospital and think I am being harrassed and discriminated against from my manager. My manager I don't think has ever liked me, which is fine I do try to have a professional working relationship w her. When I first got approved FMLA other employees would tell me about her and other asst managers making comments about me like she doesn't look like she is sick. The recent issue is I got put on a final notice for my attendance because my MD did not complete my fmla paperwork for over 9 months even after repeat calls and making trips there to have filled out. Then she proceeds to say to me and before you go shooting me off any emails or phone calls I suggest you think about what I have to say for 24 hrs. Then proceeds to say "You have off 4 days a week what are you doing to make your health better" I was shocked then said don't you think I am doing everything I can do I have had severe crohns for over 32 years since I was 6. Then she says"I am concerned that when your in the bathroom doing what ever it is that you do in there that you are not caring for your patients. Then says" I am concerned for your finances How are you paying your bills if your calling off? I have NEVER had any personal discussions with her about anything including finances. Then I said well would I be able to go to part time 24 hrs a week? I currenlty work 3 12 hr shifts. She said "If you cannot get your health under control with 4 days off a week what are you going to do with 5? Then she said no!! I contacted my hr dept told them what happened they said they would talk to her and get back to me in 2 weeks and now its going on 4 weeks with no response. I also got myself so upset and nervous that I have been having alot of accidents at work try not to eat or drink and ended up putting myself in the hosptial getting 4 units of blood transfused because I was so upset over all this. What can I do or am I just blowing this out of proportion?? Any advise PLEASE!!!

Seek a transfer to another department or a new job entirely?
She sounds like a terrible manager and a horrible human being. I'm afraid I don't have the foggiest if there's anything which can be legally done about it - I hope that other people can advise you on this front.

I would love to transferr but since she wrote me up I am unable to. She just made it clear on my way out of her office that I am on a final notice for attendance and remember I can be let go for any reason. I have worked there for 5 yrs all my md's are there and my manager has been aware of my crohns for 4 1/2 yrs.

While it does sound like discrimination to me, you may not be protected under FMLA without all of the proper paperwork in place.

Honestly, it sounds like she knows exactly what she is doing and enjoys it, too.
I do have one suggestion. Do you have a sympathetic doctor on your side who would describe in a letter what steps you are taking to improve (or at least maintain) your health and precisely why your health cannot improve to order, just because this bullying cow demands it?
(I just hate bullies and power freaks of all kinds, hence my language. And believe me, it can get much fruitier!)

I currently have all the paperwork in, I got it that same day right after our talk. The worst is they know I have this and they are also nurses and just don't give a crap. Nothing worse than blaming yourself for your illness I often wish she could walk a day in my shoes maybe on a bad one like when my husband found me blue in the face because my heart stopped beating and I wasn't breathing and that is not even the worst of my days!! I have been there almost 5 yrs and all of my drs are at the hospital I work at. My md is great but I don't want to send her any type of letter she doesn't deserve it and as far as I am concerned it is none of her business!! I don't want her to know anymore than what she does. Hr even back dated my absences. She is now acting a little weird around me nice but almost like she is afraid to talk to me. Of all people you think might be a little caring nurses!! It is her and another assistant manager that give me a really hard time. I wonder why HR has not gotten back in touch with me when they told me to give them at least 2 weeks at the most and they would get back to me. I even asked them to please make sure they get back to me so I can at least put my mind to ease. Imagine being so scared to use the bathroom that you have accidents!!! Or not eating or drinking at work for 13 hrs concerned you might have to go to the bathroom!! I have never had to adjust my life like this. My md would write the letter I am just scared and I just don't want her in anymore of my business.
