So, is it predisone or the new max dosage of remicade?

Not sure about the effect, but my take is that the prednisone is lot more effective and more immediately effective because pred is a like a nuclear bomb it suppresses the entire immune system, whereas the remi is more focused and works on controlling the tnf-alfa factor which controls the inflammatory process in the gut.

I look forward to hearing how your blood works comes out because I am also in a stage where remi seems to be losing its effectiveness and I cannot give up on the prednisone, I am taking pred periodically anywhere between 5 mg to 20 mg. And I am considering switching to humira, but the problem is once we come out of remi we can never go back to that treatment.

Ok, now I understand better, now you are doing things post surgery, so when did you have your surgery. Because the whole idea of having surgery is to give you that long-term remission. That is why my doc wants to kick the surgery thing as far as down the road as possible. As he put it, "once we burn that bridge" we can't go back to it again. Both of us also share the philosophy that we should not burn through medications because currently there are only three known drugs Humira, Remicade, and Cimzia, after that there is simponi and enebrel (which is not fully approved for cd). So there is danger in burning through meds quickly.

Also look in to 6mp, Imuran, etc and taking MTX along with biologics. Outside of this and the time tested pred there is no medicine out there (that I know off). Oh, you can also try entocort. You can look into several non-conventional therapies that have been widely discussed in this board.

Iram, while I agree with you that we should not rush through all of our med options, I am living proof that you can go back on remicade after stopping it. I was on remicade for about 5 1/2 years every 4 weeks at 10 mg per and developed antibodies. I switched to humira and then cimzia for a year with no relief. My G.I. decided to think outside the box and let me go back on remicade again but with premeds of benedryl and cortisteroids and it has been very effective. I did not die and did not turn into a frog.(sorry bad joke) It used to be common thought that once you stopped you could not go back but that has changed. Even you still have options with your remicade because you can still go up to the 7.5mg or 10 mg doses at 4 weeks. You can also add methotrexate or 6 mp to help your remicade become more effective.
mirowpl, the prednisone is probably a good part of how you are feeling because it is a med that works fast and gives you a ton of energy. Just remember that it is not a long term med and that those side effects will eventually come out. What dose and frequency of remicade are you on? Do you premed with benedryl or cortisteroids before you infusion?

If the remicade is not working as long as it used to, you can still bump up to every 6 weeks or like I am at every 4 weeks. I never was able to go even 6 weeks in between infusions. I had methotrexate added to my remicade and it was by far the most effect combination for me but my liver could not take it.
