I too am a chronnie with gastric issues, and my upper GI endoscopy showed much like orngie(and we did the tests to rule out other causative factors such as
H. Pylori )...when I started out, I had to take Nexium(a ppi-proton pump inhibitor) 3x a day...now I am down to only 1x/ day...but I will probably be on them for the rest of my life(you might be able to get them OTC, but it may also be cheaper to get them via prescript
ion if you have to take them fore an extended period of time, like me)...
Also the Remicade (and now Cimzia) do wonders with it...actually, I can tell when they are "wearing off" as I will start taking my phenergan(an anti emetic) like candy...and it is the first thing to go away/dissipate right after I receive my injection of meds...it was kinda weird how fast those meds could work (after the loading doses of Remicade, it would seem to "kick in" that evening, at least for the stomach)
And in answer to you last question...remission IS possible (I had about
6 years of remission, at one point I had NO symptoms of the disease) and I started out much like her, on the couch begging for mercy...even if she doesn't get total remission, with treatment, it WILL get better, there will be some good days (yes some bad days too, I don't wish to sugar coat)...JMHO, but I also think the longer we have this, the more we tend to adapt...
