roni -
still doing the maker's diet and some aspects of the SCD and now for giggles am in the process of doing a slight tweak for a few months and eating according to my blood type. i had blood work analysis done, so this is more "exact" than the generic book protocol. dont know if it is working (too early to tell) but it is only a subtle tweak to what i was doing before.
i do notice i get sick if i eat off my diet for too many meals in a row, too much in one meal, or just too often in a specified period of time. if i go out, i try to limit myself to whole foods as i can get organic ingredients there. if i go out somewhere else, i try to eat healty (no fried foods, complimentary bread, no dessert, salad dressing is fresh lemon juice, etc) but i always take digestive enzymes (more when i eat out) and lately have been having good success adding betaine HCL with pepsin tablets with my meals to reduce bloating and gas.
the only real symptoms i get are some bloating, which comes when i eat more raw foods, especially veggies or if i eat out. i'll get some stomach issues on occasion, like chocolate now wipes me out so i can no longer eat it. if i eat something that disagrees with me (feels like a rock in my stomach, like eating fast food) then fasting, water, and probiotics help. i have not been experiencing any real crohn's symptoms other than the peri-anal abscess which flares up time to time, but it is not a "tummy" issue, if you follow me.
never tried oil of oregano.
i eat grains, but minimally. i try to limit them to sprouted grains and non gluten grains. of course that is harder to do when you eat out or at a friends house.
supplements:
digestive enzymes (1-3 every meal)
betaine HCL with pepsin (3-8 every meal)
turmeric (experimenting with this)
echinacia golden seal (temporary)
NAC (temporary)
iron (for anemia - hoping to get off of this come january when i redo blood work)
multi vitamin (not taken every day)
vitamin D (4000 IU)
omega 3 (fish oil taken with vitamin D)
green drink (almost every morning)
resveratrol (anti oxidant; taken almost every day)
probiotics (as needed)
i know, that sounds like a lot, and it kinda is. but i'd rather take supplements than medicines. and it has become a hobby for me so i like using myself as a guinea pig to find out what works, what doesnt, what brands to get, and just navigate the slippery snake oil slope of supplements.
