why baths after abscess drain

Doctor drained and scraped his abscess on tuesday and told him to take 2 baths daily until his fistulotomy next week. 

Why does he need to take baths after the abscess was drained?

But won't showers keep it clean too?

The only thing I can think of (and I don't know where your husbands abscess was located) is that a bath will get it clean really good, while a shower may miss spots, or you could leave some soap residue in there without realizing.

Sitz baths help to soothe the area too...

Sitting in a warm bath will also help promote drainage of any infection that may be left in there. The Dr probably doesn't want to take a chance on it closing back up and getting infected again before surgery.

It brings more blood to the area which in turn promotes healing.  He should be doing them as often and as hot as possible.
