I finished my loading dose and then tried to wean off of the prednisone and crashed. GI Doc was so sure that the Remicade would have kicked in by now. Have any of you fellow crohnies out there had it kick in AFTER the loading dose? How many infusions before etc. Soooo depressed as I have heard so many success stories and I WANT TO GET OFF OF PRED!!!

My memory could be a little fuzzy but I think it took a few infusions to have a significnt effect. After the first infusion there was some improvement but I couldn't really start to see any major results until the second or third time.

When you say you've finished the loading dose - do you mean all 3 or just the first? How quickly are you tapering off what does? If you taper too quickly it's hard on your system..
My memory is fuzzy too, as it was about
8 years ago. But, I am pretty sure it was the 3rd - 4th infusion when I really noticed a difference. I can't remember if I was on steroids as I started the Remicade, though.
Hang in there!

No, I mean after the second or third infusion. I've never actually heard it referred to as a loading dose before. Are you referring to the loading dose as the series of the first few infusions before reaching the every 8 weeks doses?

You definitely need to allow more time. Up to 6 months I think I was told. For me it was a couple a weeks after the fourth dose I started to really feel it. Hang in there.

The loading doses of remicade are just that, loading doses. My point is that your body is still building up the medication in your body and it will take a few months until after those initial doses to really reach full potency. Has your G.I. worked with remicade a lot? This is not a shot at your G.I. but a real question because a lot of G.I.s were hesitant to use remicade in the past and are now finally starting to prescribe it. Remember that it has taken a long time for the crohn's to damage your intestines and will take a little while to get you back up and running. Prednisone is one of the few medications that you see almost immediate improvements but is also one of the hardest meds to wean your body off of. There are actually a few other posts on here right now about
some who are having problems because they may have weaned themselves off prednisone too fast. Your G.I. may also have to adjust your remicade dose to one that is most effective for you and your disease. Most people start at 5 mg per every 8-12 weeks and then have to have their dose raised over time to 7.5 mg per or the max 10 mg per every 4 weeks or 6 weeks. I never was able to feel any benefit on remicade until I was at 10 mg per every 4 weeks. I have been at the same dose for around 7 years.
