The Purpose of the Appendix

I had appendicitis last Sept. Found this article very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Well they removed mine 10 years ago during resection. It was already diseased!!

The sheister surgeon who did my tubal ligation removed my healthy appendix when I finally caved in after he blackmailed me for a year refusing to do the ligation w/o removing the appendix. This was two years before my Crohn's symptoms started. Since I'm the only one in my family as far back as I can determine who has intestinal problems, much less IBD, this article finally gives me someone to blame!!!!

Still have my appendix and have had CD for 40-plus years. I think that each time one of these theories pops up that point to a possible cause or trigger for CD we ought to remember that the overwhelming preponderance of the research shows clearly that there is a cascade of genetic factors that need to be in place to predispose us in the first place . . . and that bacterial/immune reactions are likely one likely trigger ONLY if those predispositions are present. I suspect there are many possible triggers, and suggesting that "appendix out equals CD" is too simple.

I had to have my appendix out about 5 years before my first flare in 20 years. Come to find out I was having obstruction issues as my appendix was healthy when they removed it. Hmmmm.....

its REAL purpose is to give new surgeons something simple to remove and gain practice ;o)
