my fistula healed!!

Hello everyone,
My last post was about three months ago. I had a fistula that developed after draining an abscess that was then left open to heal(about one yr ago- while I was 9 months pregnant) located superficially bellow my belly button. This fistula became smaller and smaller (about the size of a tip of a pen) put never closed( a bandaid with some gaze seemed to suffice, but still would get rashy sometimes.
Well I'm happy to say that it healed spontaneously about three months ago. My surgeon said this would be very unlikely with crohn's and suggested humira. I did not want to do humira since I rarely have crohn symptoms.
I've been asymptomatic for the last year and the only large change that occurred right before the fistula healing was stopping breastfeeding.
Has anyone else had spontaneous healing of fistula? Should I be concerned?

Thats great to hear. I had Fitulsa Sugery back in june. This past october I developed an Abcess in the same spot and this past week developed a second. Saw my surgeon on Friday. i go back for my second and third Fistula surgery in january.

I can not help but say i am a bit Jealous. But happy for you.

I am so happy to hear your fistula healed spontaneously! It gives me hope, altho I have to admit to a teeny tiny bit of jealousy :)

I have 5-6 Fistulas how did you heal them and did you have any side effects? Thanks--Silvergriz

Just to update everyone,
My fistula (located in central abdomen, by belly button) healed about 4 months ago, and everything is still healed and asymptomatic.
I don't know why it healed, it was a post surgical fistula that resulted from an abdominal superficial abscess that developed when I was 8 months pregnant-- which was drained and left open to heal-- fun, but not as fun as the labor with wound!
The only major changes that occurred before it healed was that I stopped breastfeeding (nursed for 15 months) and slight change of diet-- avoided all sugar.
My surgeon said he thought it would not heal and would require Humira or surgery. I opted for the wait and see-- I was feeling too well to consider either.
I don't know if that helps, although I will say, when I do go off my diet, consuming mass amounts of sugar, usually in the cookie or donut form, I get very gassy!
