I am new to this site..I am a 55 yr.old male and I have had pain in my lower right side for over three yrs. now..I Have had Crohns disease for a few yrs and now i am taking remicade...Just started One treatment...Does any else have pain and cramps in their lower right side...At times it hurts to the point of bedrest...I have pain all the time..Is this normal..Thanks..

I have cd in my small bowel with terminal ileum removed, total of 8ft of small bowel so main pain are at resected site on my right side, lower, cramping pain is pretty normal, constant pain was normal for me before I had surgeries, but when I have what I call gas blockage's then it is constant with cramping pain until I either pass alot of gas or have bm, but usually it is the gas that comes first. I get alot of relief when I start to pass gas, but those blockages can last from 2-48 hr's, I'm on rem with pain med's and I think the rem has helped keep those blockages from happening, then I take pain med's to control pain and have some sort of quality of what life I have left

Thanks for your reply.....I have been in the hospital before for a blockage before....I also had a liver transplant in 06 for a disease called PSC it has now come back...I just needed to ash someone about the pain all day long...I am so tired of it...Maybe the remicade will help...Anything else i can try...Thanks..

what is psc, I have hep c, you had liver transplant? wow, I've been to alot of symposiums here in san diego on hep c, my wife and I use to go to liver support group as well, so I know what it takes to get liver transplant, but please what is psc or is it pcs? thanks

The liver disease is called PSC i do not know how to spell it...Just type in PSC DISEASE and you can find it...It is a bile duct disease..The disease comes back and mine did but it brought crohns with it...Just my luck...The liver is working fine but the crohns is kicking by butt with this pain and cramps...Sorry about your hep c.... Do you know your meld score..

low, stage 1 in both, scarring and disease, I never drank, and I took steam bath everyday for 8 years, well 5 days a week, and dr's think combo of no alcohol and steams, steams it seemed kept my liver flushed out. I had a career where I had to reduce (diet), so that's why I was hitting steam room so much, it just coincidently was good for flushing out liver. glad to hear your liver is ok, you know when you have liver issues you have gi issues as well.

I have the exact same thing as artist guy, the gas pain is ridiculous!! My ilium is gone as well. Only have had about 3 feet removed. Do you have to take questran daily? I have to.

I do not even know what questran is...I take nothing except rejection for my liver transplant...And only one remicade treatment so far.......Thanks

questran is like U.S. immodium, I think. I have to take vicodin for pain daily and that helps in slowing things down alittle, just tons of gas, but I eat papayas daily so my farts don't stink, and my bm's don't have any odor, so if I'm in public like movie, if I can, I can muffle farts in the seat, and since they don't smell I don't feel as bad, it's when they stink really bad, that when you're in public it can be humiliating and offensive and really embarrassing for our family members, people look at you and your significant other and go whew! that poor women has to live with that.good times

Questran is a powder that I mix with water. It is a bile binder. If I don't take it by noon everyday, about 1 oclock my guts start gurgling and percolating, and man do I go. It does not stop and the end result is straight bile coming out. I am exhausted the rest of the day. SOOOO, I don't miss a dose, that is forsure.

Hmmm, I think I will try a papaya tomorrow, LOL!!

PSC= Primary Sclerosing Colangitis...
I have it too...BTW, I must constantly deal with ab pain, and liver pain(which is way different) and joint pain, I'm really getting tired of always being in pain...oh and the itching can drive me nuts, I wake up in the middle of the night scratching...

I haven't had a liver transplant yet, but I know I will need one at some time, probably in less than 5 years...maybe even sooner...I haven't had to see a hepatologist yet...so I'm not sure of my meld score...actually I see my GI tomorrow in regards to my liver and the tests...

Oh, as to the pain, can you describe it...what type of pain is it? that can tell a lot about if you are better seeing a pain management doctor or seeing your GI(ie if it is just due to cramps)...

Sounds like you are having a very commom pain in a common location. Most of us with CD in the most common location the Terminal Ileum and Cecum area have the pain in the lower right. If you are having a spasmy type of pain in the area you might ask your GI about something like Bentyl or Levsin. That is an antispasmotic that helps with the crampiness and will help a little with the pain. Hugs and welcome!

That is the way i feel all day long...I have pain right this minute...No relief when i go to the bathroom either...For the last three weeks it has been this way...I have had one remicade treatment so far..next one on the 21st of this month...Thanks for your reply..

Yes- I have pain all the time on the left lower side.  From what my Dr. says, it has a lot to do with where your Crohns is the most active. I hope you feel better

I use to tough out those mini blockages, without pain med's, not now man, no way, I don't evan want to try to tough it out, pain med is part of my regiman now, keep ahead of pain, I try not to get it to the point of fetal position, and pain so much I vibrate, but what is scarry for me when that happens is I'm so afraid of obstruction's I've had a few that had to be surgerically removed, total of 8ft of small bowel, gonzo. now I have alot of post op complications, dehydration, lots of bm's with alot of bile and gas, and if I don't get rid of it, bad news for me. I can't eat until i get rid of the bile in the am.
