Hi I am new to this

I have been diognosed with Crohns 3 years agao after a lot of specialist,test,biopsy's etc... I have tried everything natural, eating, and alternative to help it but it just doesn't work for long. i will be starting Remicade infusions in 2 weeks and my husband deploys in  week. I have 3 kids and a wonferful job but no matter who surrounds me and loves me- I feel alone a lot of the time. The hardest thing right now is the Predisone and the 12 lbs i have gained on it. I am not trying to be vain- it is just so embarrasisng. It is really doing a number on my self-esteem. As iff crapping mysel all the time doesn't already! lol It is just hard to lose control of my body. Does anyone know what I mean?

Welcome to healingwell. Sorry you have crohn's but glad you've found us. I've found this forum very supportive and informative and knowledgeable when it comes to dealing with my husband's crohn's disease. They are the family I can lean on when I feel overwhelmed.

I'm so sorry you are going through this, when your husband is getting deployed. As if just having to manage the kids alone and worrying about your hubby isn't enough, I am so sorry you have crohn's to deal with as well. As artist guy said, don't worry about the weight - once you're off the steroids, they'll fall off. It did for my hubby.

Remicade saved my husband from needing surgery. I hope it works miracles for you, and keeps you in remission for a long long time, and gives you the energy you need to care for your kids and not feel so alone. Once you get your symptoms under control with the right combination of medications, you should be able to get back to a more normal life. So just hang tight.

Feel free to post here, if you just need a virtual hug, or some support. Also, I believe that people need to know what's wrong with you - all my husband's coworkers and friends know about his crohn's disease, what it can do, and how he is immunosuppressed from the medications he takes. I think it makes them more compassionate and understanding, and it makes him feel less alone, because they try to find new ways to interact with him.

Hang in there honey, it's going to get better once you get on the right meds.

Welcome Lady... I am so sorry you have to be here! But, you are in good company now... You can find support here any time you need it. We *all* understand! It's such a hard disease. Nobody really "gets it" and they simplify to "what's the big deal you poop a lot?" but as you say, there's so much to it. And, it can really be quite devastating... emotionally, physically and work-wise. I've found it's super helpful to find someone I can really talk to about it, which basically means connecting with another Crohnie. There's the HW forum you've found (yea!), but you can also check into your local chapter of CCFA. (ccfa.org - you should be able to search for it) maybe attending a support group and being around others would help.

I've also found therapy helps, if you can afford it or find time with your kids. Actually, I've made myself a promise to get started finding a new therapist that I can feel comfortable with. Sometimes it takes a couple to meet "the right one.'

You really will lose the weight after the steroids. I also struggled with vanity, though I never considered myself a vain person in any way. I didn't really gain weight, but my cheeks made me look like a Disney character! ;-) The steroids help so focus on the good they do and feel comfortable knowing you will not be on them for too long. (At least, that's the way it typically works - a couple 2-3 months or so). You are strong, I am sure. As a mother of 3, you must be! ;-) So hang in there and come visit here as often as you can. Just being "around" others who understand will help lighten your load.

I appreciate all the understanding and advice. It is a difficult time. I was suppose to meet up wth my extended family today and I am too sick to go. I am sending my hubby and kids without me. It gives me peace to know that they can still have fun even when I am sick. That is one of the hardest parts of my husband deploying-when he is gone- there is no TEAM -parenting. It is all up to me and if I can't leave the bathroom, my kids can't leave the house. It makes me feel a lot of guilt. I know I can't control it and if a friend was saying this I would say" Don't be so hard on yourself" but when it is me- it is different. I am a "giver" and to not be able to do that takes a piece of me away. Thank goodness  for my firends and my job. I am able to do almost all of my work on my laptop at home. God really provided the best job for my situation. I can still feel useful from bed!! It is just a very hard time for my whole family because hubby leaves soon. If any of you know about the military- we don't have an exact date yet-we only know it will be between yesterday and next Sunday. So we literally have to say our goodbyes every day-just in case. I am a "glass half full" kind of girl but at times I need to vent my pain so I can not get too stuck in my head. Does that make sense?

I will look into the SCD diet. I did have a nutrionists change my diet a year ago but i dont think it is the same as you all aretalking about. The hard part for me is I also have 4 other people to cook for. I will research it as I used to be a massage therapist for 8 years and worked in a "wellness clinic" I believe is natural health care as as well as western medicine as a balance.

i feel the same way you do. sometimes i feel like a bad mom because i can't do the thnigs i should do with my little girl. i feel guilty too. i am always sitting in the crapper. i have been waiting to go on remicaid and hoping itv will help.

just know you are not alone,even i too feel like that. even with my family around i still feel alone. how can they know what or how you feel if they do not suffer as we do. the most thing i hear is, well you look good. really i look good hu, perhaps i shouls show you what it looks like after i eat something wrong, or what is in the toilet. or would you like to see a photo of me curled up in a ball crying.
