Tomorrow is finally the day :(

After 2 trips to the hospital in the last 2 months, my ever worsening condition, 15 pills a day, no sleep every night because of my Prednisone, lack of appetite i'm going in to have an Infuser Port surgically implanted in my shoulder where i will then be getting my nutrients that way. The surgeon said there's a very rare possibility of complications with a collapsed lung in the procedure but he's done quite a few of these so i'm not too worried. Then i get admitted for another week stay bringing my total to 20 hospital days in the last 2 months. To say i'm angry and frustrated would be understating it. It's been a horrible end to 2010 and 2011 hasn't started out much better.

I'm curious if anyone here has any experience themselves with Infuser Ports or how the nutrients are injected? This disc is implanted under the skin and nothing is hanging out so something must get put through the center of the disc so i'm guessing there's some sort of needle protruding out of it just enough to inject stuff. Surgeon says it will be in for at least 6 months if not more.

Anyway, sorry i haven't been around much lately. I've been really run down and weak and barely get to my computer anymore. Just wanted to say i'm thinking of all of you and to ask for your prayers for tomorrow.

i did the Central Line/TPN on my last stay hooked up to a big bag that looked like Oatmeal. This is supposed to be something different that i can do at home after a home care nurse stops by and shows me and Mrs how to do it. The TPN was going through the central line which went into my juggular vein.

I would guess i'll be on the TPN again for my stay because i'm not supposed to see the nurse till i get home. They are keeping me there his time to watch for any possible reactions or infections.

By chance is it a Port-a-cath? I have a port-a-cath and they use it for TPN when I need it and also for blooddraws and remicade infusions. It is the best thing I have had done. It is an easy access and you don't have to worry about trying to find veins. It is completely under the skin so there is less chance of infection than if you have a central line. You just have to have it flushed every 4-6 weeks when it is not in use.
I have had mine for 7 years and only had to have it replaces 1 time.
