The floods have reached Phoebe's city, and some suburbs are being evacuated.

I don't know exactly where you live, Phoebe, but please stay safe.

It's a worry, because the water is heading south, too, so even if she's evacuated herself to her parents' (or is still on Christmas holidays there) she could still be affected or stranded.

*sigh*

I wish she'd come online and tell us how she is.

Yes, Australia. Queensland. Those floods; the ones you're probably seeing on tv. I've heard they're all over the international news today.

We're on flood watch here, too, but nothing like where she is. Hers are really, really, frightening, and I'm worried for her.

I don't watch much TV and wasn't aware. I guessed because I know you are from Australia. So sorry to hear that conditions are bad there. I will keep you all in my thoughts.

It's been going on for a while now, but it got really bad yesterday when a two-to-eight-metre wall of water just raged through a city and then a valley and swept people and houses and cars away. They're calling it an inland tsunami.

The waters are moving through the river systems, and hitting Phoebe's city now.

OMG that is incredible. Global climate change perhaps plays a role here. It does look like a tsunami. Hang in there

Horrible, isn't it. Those poor people. I keep trying to imagine an eight-metre high wall of water and can't... let alone how I would / could try to escape it.

it is an area bigger than france that is now under water in queensland and getting larger every day - hard to imagine and suddenly our ongoing earthquakes in christchurch don't seem quite so bad. Really do hope Phoebe and her family are safe :)

My heart goes out to those in the path of the floods. Seeing those images on th news brings back bad memories of what happened here during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Praying for Phoebe!

I live in Queensland too and things are bad but Im pretty sure phoebe is in Brisbane and so far all the missing and dead are in the lockyer valley district which is a good way from her. My daughter is a police officer and is working her butt off helping search for injured and keep us all safe. Please all pray for the ones that are lost and the police and ses for putting their lives on the line for us all, hopefully they are found safe and well. I'm sure you will hear from Phoebe soon. take care all

Just feel sorry for anybody who has to go through an experience like that.

I wish everybody could be safe, tbh. Not just one person. But that said, I do wish Phoebe well and hope that she is all right.

I was just going to make a post this a.m. for all our Aussie members when I saw this. I will definetly keep Phoebe and all those affected by these horrible floods in my prayers. Hope we here from Phoebe soon! Andorable I hope you stay safe too. Big kudos to your police officer daughter, I hope she stays safe too. Hugs to all!

I will be praying for the safety of everyone affected by the floods. I hope phoebe and her family are doing ok, and that they have plenty of supplies and medication on hand, and that Phoebe is in good health in order to deal with this ordeal.

I hope Phoebe is alright. My brother in law lives in Brisbane right by the river and they were told to evacuate as well. I really hope the rain stops and you get some relief over there...

Those are floods of biblical proportions! How frightening for all the people and animals there. It sounds like they are flash floods too! OMG... Thoughts and prayers out to the folks of Australia. I hope Phoebe and all her loved ones are safe.

They're moving somewhere up north. I really hope he's ok as it's actually hit Brisbane right now. The only consolation we have is that he lives high up in an apartment in what looks like a solid building, but they do have to evacuate asap...

Yep. It's all over the news this morning, and a lot of normal programming has been suspended nationally. Sounds as if the water is rising fairly quickly there.

Please do let us know when your brother reaches safety.

It's good he lives up high: at least he won't have to move his furniture etc to avoid the water.

Ari, our Prime Minister is just on the radio. She said that if people ring:

180 2266

(if that doesn't work, try 1800 2266; she might have said it incorrectly)

they may be able to get immediate payment to help with the costs associated with evacuating, not going to work, etc.

Thought it might help your brother.

Thanks Ivy. i'll forward that number or else give it to my in-laws so they can do for me. Andrew usually stays in touch with them over the internet, but I think they've got his mob number and will call him tomorrow The only thing we can do over here is hope for the best and pray for them. At least it's stopped raining for a while...
