I can live with having D 10-15 times a day. I can tolerate (sometimes) the pain. But the nausea? I hate it. And I don't understand it. It seems to happen if I don't have anything on my stomach, so I have to eat a piece of toast or crackers every 3 hours or so. But if I eat anything with flavor, I get nauseous and throw up. It's getting old living on bread and tomato soup. That's all that sits well with me. What is it about
Crohn's that makes one nauseous? I understand the pain and diarrhea are from all the ulcers and inflammation. But the nausea doesn't make sense to me. It's very frustrating.

Maybe you have some inflammation further up? A colonoscopy wouldn't show if there was inflammation in the small bowel. But I think right now, while you are waiting for Cimzia (which hopefully will clear up all the inflammation), you should ask your Gi for some symptom control meds. My husband was prescribed Zofran for nausea with a stomach flu, and it worked really well.
I think perhaps you can ask the GI for zofran to deal with the nausea while you wait on Cimzia and get better.
Hugs,

Have you tried prilosec? When my reflux gets worse I have more nausea. Maybe it would help (even if just a little).
I'd also call the GI and see if they can prescribe something for nausea. Zofran works really well, but can be expensive. Phenergan is far less expensive but makes most people sleepy. Your doctor should give you something to help keep food down so you can get more food in your system.
I hope things get better. For me, nausea is the worst! I just can't deal with it.

Have you ever tried Tums or Calcium for the nausea? I usually don't get nauseous, but when I do I try calcium and it usually helps.
I have Zofran for when it gets really bad and I find that helps a LOT. But it's wicked expensive and usually takes a huge fight with the insurance company to get it. Though you should ask your doctor about
it.

Have they said anything to about
strictures or narrowing? Whenever I have one you can always count on nausea appearing. Another thought that was mentioned about
is Acid Reflux. It causes a very upset stomach for me. I do not get heartburn with it at all, just a very upset and nauseous gut. I use both Zofran and Phenergan for nausea. The works without making you sleepy like the Phenergan can. Hugs!

I do have Zofran. It helps short-term, but doesn't last the full 8 hours before I can take another. They haven't said anything about
strictures. I haven't had a SBFT or anything to check my small intestines. I do have acid reflux and take 40mg omeprazole daily for it.

Like you, I have constant diarrhea and intermittent pain--but I've learned that I can tell when I need to start racing to the bathroom, because every time I have to go, I'm hit beforehand by a wave of nausea. It's truly awful and my least favorite symptom. I hate it, and I don't know what to do about
it, either.

I never understood the nausea either. Most of my Crohn's (all that's been noted) is in the large bowel. Due to the nausea, I started to wonder if I had inflammation further up and nobody's seen it. I use Phenergan for nausea. I'm one who doesn't feel sleepy at all with it. And, like you, I get nauseous if my stomach gets empty. I'm a little better with nausea right now, but I *hate* nausea too.

add me to the list of getting nauseous on an empty stomach. If I hurry up and put food in my mouth I'm usually ok. I've been trying to get rid of the nausea for 2 years now. For me--it's the worst part.

I think you can get nausea if there's something wrong with your colon. I started getting nauseous when my strictures developed and I know one of them is in my large bowel. Maybe it's to do with how it's positioned above the stomach, I dunno, but there's a connection between the colon and the nausea...

My nausea makes me think back to the old days when I was pregnant and had morning sickness. It feels exactly the same....except that now I'm not throwing up non-stop. It truly is a horrible feeling.

One thing that wasn't mentioned was the possibility of Gastritis. I get terrible nausea when my gastritis flares up, and keeping a little something in my tummy seems to help. Just a thought.
But another anti-nausea med that might work is Tigan. It is cheaper than Zofran. I don't think it works as well, but it does work OK. I have both and use both depending on how bad my nausea is. Since the Zofran is so expensive, my insurance will only pay for so many pills in any given time frame so I have to ration them.

I'm so frustrated with this today. I feel hungry, but I can't stand to eat. It took me 2 hours to eat half my lunch and that's all I can do. My stomach feels empty, but I just can't make myself eat.

When I'm flaring I get nauseous and it ain't nice so I know you feel. My doc gave me Omeprazole and that seemed to help, but it really did'nt go away until I eventually got out of my flare-up. Hopefully it passes sooner rather than later.
