advice on surgery

Unfortunately Crohns will come back. She may feel fine for awhile (hopefully for a long time) but eventually it will come back and more surgery is very possible. My surgeon said that just having resections done, the crohns will come back faster than with having an ileostomy done.  I've had my large intestine removed due to crohns and have an ileostomy. Its been a little over 8 years since my surgery and I haven't had any trouble with it coming back. I feel great and I'm not on any meds. I have my life back.

I'm suppose to be a Jr. in college but I've only completed one semester, since I've had to withdraw from school twice, and I had to take this whole year off, because of Crohn's. It's hard watching my friends go back to school and be almost done with it and moving on with their lives. At times I feel like I've missed out on a lot of things, and there are days when I feel sad and frustrated because I have had to put a lot of things on hold, and I've been stuck at home. A lot of times I don't know what to do with my self, and I just bad days where I'm stuck in a funk. But then I'm reminded of all I've been through and over come, and I feel better. Being positive through everyhting challenging will make one stronger in the end. So when you or your daughter are in a funk remember all that you have been through and all that you over came!

My brother was diagnosed with Crohn's also at the end of his JR. of high school year. He missed a lot of school and had to withdraw from a few class, but the teachers spent a lot of time with him to make sure he completed the year. He started only going to school for a half day. And his SR year he was only able to go for a half day, because that's all he had energy for. Luckily his school worked hard with him to make sure he graduated on time, which he successfully did!

So there's hope and your daughter will see that what she has had to go through will make her succeed and may be more successful and more mature then a lot her peers!

hey stressed mum, just to give you alittle encouragement, I got 15-20 years after ea resection of remission, she has had cd for years, with arthritis at 18 months, to me is eary stages of cd. now for the encouragment part, I was horse jockey when I was stricken down, bad sick for ayear, near death. no joke. but I was healthy when this happened, so I bounced back fast after they removed disease, 8 weeks after huge section taken out, 8 weeks back riding race horses. now 40 years later not so good, ssdi permanent dis. but could be much worse, evan tho i can't do the work that most people can do, because of bowel issues, gas pain (bad) issues. I can't be in public much, but on the good note Iam an artist so I do work out of our property, but I can stop when I feel lousy or lay down when bad gas pains, Iam limited to the amount of art i do because of cd. just don't have the stamina, my art is physical work(willow furniture maker) but I can still do it, so god bless you and your girl, she'll find remission with this surgery

Hi Jeanneac & Artist guy, lovley to here from you both sounds like you have both been through some awful times also. It's such a boost to us all the here such positive stories ang long remissions. Think we have now accepted this is going to be a life time battle one way or another. But today is a good day, no pain and she is going to try some protien drinks (40 sips ) ? any ideas what these are. She is sterving hungry and cant wait to eat which im guessing is a positive sign. JUst keeping everthing crossed they wont make her vomit as she is really sore from surgery still.
