The amount of blood I've seen over the past few days has been alarming. I've been throwing up every day and the rectal pain is near unbearable. I finally gave in. So here I sit, in the waiting room, dreading what they're going to do to me. If a finger comes anywhere near my butt, someones going to lose a finger.

Hi. I'm so sorry things are not looking up yet, and you're in the ER. I think they'll probably want to give you prednisone. The way things have gone with my hubby in the ER is usually a CT scan which will show them where the inflammation is. Also, if your doc is a consulting physician at the hospital, they can talk to your doc and pull up your records as well.

I think at this point, it maybe the best thing to do - to control this inflammation. It's really effective at it. Maybe you can talk to your psychiatrist and see if they can do anything to help you with meds for the bipolar.

That sounds awful. I'm so sorry you are getting so much worse.

If you are bipolar (not sure about that - couldn't find a reference to it in your posts, just in PV's post) then I completely understand about not taking pred. BTDT. Hell on wheels.

If they insist that is what is needed, call the on-call psychiatrist and see if he/she wants to give you any additional meds to help offset the chance that you will have a severe mood swing happen. Do it before you leave the hospital and have the pdoc call in any rx to a pharmacy so you can pick them up on the way home.

And I would not be surprised if they decided you need to be hospitalized given the severity of your symptoms.

Hang in there. I don't know if Cimzia is still the best choice for you. I'm thinking Remicade because, when it works, it usually works really fast. As in same day/next day/same week fast. And you may end up on TPN or liquid diet for a bit too.

I'm home now. The CT showed inflammation, but they were expecting that. They didn't see any abscesses or fistulae. Bloodwork was ok-I didn't need a transfusion. White count was elevated (14k). They're concerned about c-diff and took a stool sample, but those results will take several days. They put me on flagyl and cipro. They spoke with the on-call doc at my GI's office to consult, as well as the attendee on call. Surgery was mentioned, but only if all these new drugs don't work. I'm confident they will. I'm supposed to call my doc in the morning and get in to see him in the next couple days.

What stinks is even after morphine and dilaudid, I still went home in pain (rectal). It's the pain that won't quit!

Can you get something for the pain RX for you??

Gosh I hope these new meds work for you! And you are able to recover quickly. Best of luck, and I hope you find something for the pain.

I hope today you are feeling a bit better,. the only thing that seemed to touch the butt pain was tramadol (set). I found all the morph, did to me was make me loopy, but the pain was still there. I felt the same way, when i have to go to the er...touch my bung hole and you die..

I am so sorry the pain meds aren't helping the rectal pain. I have a similar problem with my fistula (wound pain even though I am on constant pain meds). What works for me is lidocaine. Maybe something topical would work for you. I am sure they have suppository pain meds (can't think of one right now, but I know I have gotten them before when I was too nauseous to swallow). Or maybe putting lidocaine on the area will help you also :)
