First off I would like to thank you all for your prayers and kind thoughts, they worked!!

When I first got there the lady showed me TWO questionable spots on the mammogram. Of course, right away that kinda set me on edge. I had to have a diagnostic mammogram, then they came back and told me I had to have an ultrasound too. Now more nervous!

After all that it comes to find out, its only two cysts, nothing to worry about. Whew!!!! Just have to go back for another mammogram in one year instead of the usual two.

So thanks again for all your support, it meant the world to me. Hugs!

My mom had b/c twice, so starting at age 30 I had diagnostic mammos every year, and often had to follow up with u/s to check on suspicious spots. I hated that, even though I understood it was the right approach. Probably.

about 5 years ago none of that was able to answer the questions the radiologist had about one particular spot, so they did a needle biopsy. That still didn't answer any questions so they scheduled me for a surgical biopsy. At that point, I ran out of patience and went for a second opinion at the local cancer hospital (MD Anderson). They did a breast MRI and saw nothing. N.O.T.H.I.N.G.

So now I get my annual screenings at MDA. Because of my mom's history, I fall into a risk group that gets annual mammo and annual MRI. I still hate the amount of time I have to spend doing this, and I still feel that my risk is not different than anyone else's - my mom's lifestyle I think made her more susceptible (smoking, unhealthy diet, no exercise) and I am not her (and she survived her cancer, changed her lifestyle significantly). But, sigh, I still stick to the plan. I'm hopeful that once I'm clearly menopausal the breast health team will ease up on their risk assessment (my mom's 1st cancer was during perimenopause). Probably not. When I'm not feeling too cynical I forget about their financial interest in me - my insurance covers the cost of the MRI because of their risk assessment. huh.

I'm very very glad that this worked out well for you. Like so many medical tests, the screenings often have false positives and make us crazy. Enjoy your freedom from the breast squashing monster mammo machine for the next year!

Whew!! I am glad they were just cysts. That happened to me many years ago. My mammogram showed a couple of spots on both breasts! I was convinced I had breast cancer b/c it had been so long since my last mammogram ( was young and the first one hurt really bad) I had the worst 45 minutes of my life sitting there thinking I had breast cancer for sure. My anxiety level was so high. Lucky for me, they did ultrasounds right there and said without a doubt, they were fluid filled cysts and I was fine.

I am very happy for you.

There is cancer in my immediate family and I have been hoping my sister would get her Vitamin D levels measured. It is supposed to substantially reduce the risk.
