I have an extreme gas problem which also causes me to feel bloated, this is something new for me (this level of gassy-ness but no smell really to it and the amount of bloating) is there any causes of this that you guys know of?

yes, you have crohns. My farts are so loud, my wife is part time pet sitter, she brings 2 of these standard poodles over to our house. evidently their owners never have gas, because they came over one day and man I was on fire, so they came in the house, and i cut super loud fart, that i swear lasted 30 seconds,(good times) I'm serious on that, because man it feels so good to blow them out, anyway those dogs looked at me, like what in the hell was that noise, the younger female cocked her head, like what was that explosion. I get so bloated

as well, but the releasing gas sure helps.

I think that certain foods can increase gas production. When my husband recently was diagnosed with a flare-up, his only real symptom was lots of smelly gas, and difficulty passing it and bloating. So it could also be a sign of a flare-up.

Also, sometimes if you have just changed probiotics or you're taking more, probiotics can also cause a little more gas. Same with antibiotics - can cause gas and diarrhea.

Lots of causes of gas. You can avoid foods that produce gas (just google for it, and there's lots of websites that give you the list). Also, avoid sugar. Try eating a very basic diet for a couple of weeks and see if the gas persists. If it does, it may be time to see your doc and see if you are heading into a flare-up.

I hope the gas is just diet related.

But the thing is the farts have no smell at all aha, and I don't take probiotics as I get the D very easily.

It might be diet related cause I am trying to put weight on after losing ~20 pounds due to the flu and I am chowing down on coffee milkshakes and high fatty/calorie dense banquet tv dinners. I think I will stop those two for a week to see if it cuts down.

And I do agree during school I can't release cause they are deep sounding and last each for a good 3-10 seconds, and I am averaging like 10 per hour.

joe, what the heck do you do if you can't release them, I couldn't do it, I give you kudo's for that, sounds like cd and alot of food, same here, when I eat alot I get more gas, but to me that is cd related, it isn't normal to have that kind of gas unless there is issues going on

I don't have crohn's, and I get bad issues with gas with some foods. Especially really fatty foods, and really sugary things, and I sound like a trumpet (if by myself of course). Otherwise, I do my best to be quiet about it, or rush into the bathroom. So, crohn's ins't the only cause of gas - it just goes with crohn's territory as well. It's part of what makes crohn's so hard to distinguish from IBS or just food related digestive issue.

Oh, and coffee is like a laxative for me - If I feel like I am backed up, some coffee, and within 1/2 hour I have some gas and have to go.

So, it very well could just be food related. I hope the elimination diet helps point out the suspect.

If you aren't using any probiotics they might help reduce the bloating and gas. Eating good quality yogurt (the kind that have a lot of active yogurt cultures) might help too.

Any probiotics you recommend that are cheap like under 25 bucks and actually worth it?

You could try PB8. But the thing about probiotics is that what works for one of us, won't always work for the other. I tried about 5 different kinds and they all made me worse. Gave up on probiotics for a few years. Eventually the bloating and gas was just too much. My doctor insisted I try Align. It worked, its expensive but it works. PB8 is a lot cheaper but seems to work about the same for me.

The key is to try good brands. The super cheap ones, are super cheap for a reason. Any brand you try you need to take for a few weeks to give it a full chance, if after 3 weeks or so, symptoms show no sign of improving, more on. Don't give up until you find one that works.

Another possibility is a small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). Everytime I ate I would get really gassy, bloated, and some discomfort in my gut. I was put on a 10 day course of Cipro and it knocked it right out of me, along with changing to a stronger probiotic. You might want to discuss this with your GI.

By the way, I use Primadolphilus Fortify by Natures Way. You can find in the refrigerated section in your local healthfood store. It only costs me about $12-15 for a 30 day supply. I would highly recommend you getting on a probiotic, with this disease we tend to have a bacterial imbalance. I was going 6-8 times a day, now I go 1-2 more formed stools a day. Hope that helps! Welcome aboard. I don't think I can ad anything new to this. sad It's either SIBO, strictures or intolerance to certain foods, esp. those containing dairy and starch. I find it helps to empty my gut and for me fasting usually does the trick. I do juice for a day and often my ab goes down, but then I can see the loops ballooning in front of my strictures as the bowel is pushing the food thru. Ouch. I also get gurgly with it.. smhair

Thing is now I only go 1-3 times a day (before I got dehydrated it was 4-5), and at night I have no bloating because I have basically empty out all the gas and I feel great, it might be milk stuff so I am trying to cut out milk to see if the amount cuts down.

Is there a RX probiotic that I could get prescribed so I could take advantage of my 5 dollar copay or no?

Oh JoeFalcon, its the milk I think. It makes me really gassy and then I get poopy too. Maybe try Lactose free milk and see if that works better for you.

The no-brainers are the milk and sugar as a cause.  I can remember writing this post years ago and finally I realized if I used fast acting lactaid pills with dairy or used lactose free products that solved the milk causing issue.  The sugar one takes more of a commitment, and by sugar I mean all things that easily convert to sugar such as grains, no bread, no oatmeat, and for heavens sake no boxed cereal!  Those foods are deadly to my stomach, I just might explode if I eat them!  I seem to have no problem with fruits and veggies, now that my stricture has been surgically removed.  Try it out, you'll know right away if you're strict, whether it works!

Hey Joe, a couple of months ago I started getting abnormally gassy, belchy, loud gastric noises and bloating. Dr says either stricture, SIBO or a combination. For me, I'm on Flagyl, and it seemed to help quite a bit with the gassiness, but I'm still having some bloating/distention/noises. It is a lot less than it was, but not eliminated.

I haven't noticed that dairy has bothered me in the past. A recent food-related change that I made that has helped was elminating soda from my diet (I was easily 36oz day, minimum of mountain dew or coca cola, replaced with apple juice & gatorade), and adding 1 yogurt/day. This has helped cut the bloating down even further in my case.

just a quik note on soda. You can take rusty nail and put it in glass of soda and it will remove rust. that tells you what it's like in our guts. I cut that out years ago. really helped

you could loose more than that, I easily gave it up compared to the acid reflux it caused.
