What med is most effective for your stomach pain?

One of my biggest difficulties with CD is the stomach pain.  It is more inflammatory than acidic.  Things like artificial fruit flavors in flavored waters really sets me off and makes me sick for hours.  Feels like my stomach is an infrared heater.  I don't have acid reflux, but the pain is really intense sometimes.  Just  wondered what everyone is using.  My med isn't working too well.

hey OTD, your pain doesn't sound cramping type, maybe you need some form of other biologic? I'm on rem and vicodin, my cd is centerely located in small bowel, traveled up esoph. and throat, cankers, typical cd in mouth, any way, rem has really helped throat, and I have crampy type pains only, which is gas related, and all the bells and whistles that go along with cd. I'm a little double whammied, because I've had 9ft of small bowel removed, so I have ton's of post op issuse, but they're not the crampy,mini blockage, type pain that I normally am prone to get. No lap surg's. for me, very invasive type are the only kind that I've had, 4. I'm on ssdi

hey OTD, before i had my re-section i was on oral buscapan for these waves of severe pain and cramping, its used to relax your gut so also stopped me being sick so much i also took tramadol for pain which helped get on top of the pain...both of them togeather really helped, because when the pain builds up so far thats when i would throw up. but after a while the inflammation in my intestine just got to much so no pain killers would work thats why i ended up having re-section...but might work for you.
i hope your pain can get undercontrol soon, because i know pain can control you!

OTD, I'm sorry, I read your thread wrong, it sounds like crampy type. pain meds work for me and rem has helped alot

@ artist guy You read my thread right. I don't have crampy pain. I get an inflammatory pain. I am not talking about nausea pain either. It is like my stomach gets hot. It is not indigestion or acid reflux. It is sensitive to any kind of artificial flavoring or whatever they put in vitamin waters. I can drink orange juice and tomato juice but not life water. So strange. It's almost like I swallowed too hot a liquid but the heat won't go away. One minute my stomach feels fine and the next minute it feels like it is on fire. Crazy, huh?

do you think it is maybe from no gb? sounds bileish burning from excess bile maybe? have you tried pain med's for this? just wondering, I'm tring to think what that could be other than CD. for me when I have strange issues, I just feel it's the cd talking

I have never been one to take pain meds and at the rate they have been pulling them off the market looks like I have been right. I use a heating pad if I must but I also use beano to prevent gas in the first place. Its just an enzyme .

I know what you are talking about as far as the burning pain and it can really be difficult. I use a combination of solutions to help with mine. First, I use remicade to keep the problems at a minimum. Second, I use a heating pad like sniper mentioned but that will not help with the severe pain. Third, I use hydrocodone(lortab) a few times a day to help with the burning and stabbing stomach pain and arthritis. Fourth, I changed my diet to eat healthier foods that are easy to digest. Switching to no fried foods and more chicken breast and salmon instead of red meat really helped me. I also limit my intake of breads and added more fiber through foods like yogurt with granola and oatmeal. I am not completely strict with my diet and still eat some red meat but make it once a week or less. One item that is not on my diet but a comfort item that helps with the stomach pain is coke. I know that many doctors say that coke is bad for the disease, it is also known that cola is a natural antinausea and relaxes my stomach. I have to sip it when I drink it so that the carbonation won't kill me. We all have one or 2 items we can't give up.lol

@artist guy - Great suggestion about the GB. I'm going to bring that up with my GI. I've had lots of problems with that just having it out and have been blaming the CD for everything.
@tsitodawg I am on a very strict low fiber diet right now. Only chicken, baked fish, turkey, pasta, rice etc. But, like you, Pepsi helps my stomach. That and two Hershey's Kisses a day keep me from going nuts on this diet. Thanks all, for your suggestions.

hey there-- sitting here with the heating pad as i type! it helps...unfortunately i'm also taking 4-6 percocets a day right now to help deal with my pain...doesn't kill the pain 100%, but it helps dull it for a while...
