Right now I'm on the pill, have been since about 2003. I've had to change the type of pill about once a year because it works for a while and then I always end up having break-thru bleeding. Never heavy when its break-thru, but spotting enough where I have to wear a pad all the time because I can't always tell when its going to happen. Whenever I get break-thru bleeding or when I'm on my real period, it really interacts with CD. Like, I'm LITERALLY stuck in the bathroom with uterine and intestinal cramps. It sucks!
Also, I'm with my bf of 3 years, but I really don't feel like getting pregnant, both because I'm not financially/physically/emotionally prepared for it and also auto-immune disorders run rampant in my family (both my siblings, mother, 2 aunts, grandmother, great grandfather and 3 great uncles; narcolepsy, UC, CD, arthritis, and AS). I'm 99.9999...% certain that if I had a bio-child, I'd pass it on. As much as I'd love to have a kid sometime in the future, I don't know if I'd want to give life to someone who may suffer symptoms at an early age since its so prevalent in my family. I esp. wouldn't want to pass on anklyosing spondlytis; watching my brother suffer with it has been hard enough.
Does Mirena sound like a good choice for me? I've read some on the complications of it, but those people may not have an auto-immune disease. What complications have you experienced from having one? Give me any suggestions you got, even if negative. I really want to make an informed decision.
