Started LDN, and am having some success!

I hope the success continues and you get relief! I'm on LDN and Humira, ( my LDN is prescribed by Dr. Jill Smith). As far as my small bowel Crohn's goes it is under control for the most part. So the combination of the two seemed to be working. I can't really tell you how much of that is due to the LDN because I'm also on Humira. I have an abscess that was drained back in september so that is one reason I'm on Humira, and at the time I started LDN I couldn't risk going off a biologic.

Yeah, it is still relatively new, but more and more Dr.'s are becoming open to it. Luckily my GI doctor did his fellowship under Dr. Jill Smith so he was more open to it.

Just curious, do you have any other symptoms other than UC/Crohns? 

Like fibromyalgia, or Arthrititis, Painful Joints and Bones?

I have those pains - they are really bad and am hoping that the LDN will eventually help me with those too.

I'm another Jill Smith patient - and I asked her this exact question -- and her response was that I could expect further improvement as my immune system started to work correctly on its own from the LDN. I was around the 9 month mark myself. :)

I would say I had an overnight success in some symptoms when I first started using LDN 3 years ago. The pain I had in my stomach was gone the first day after the first pill. I woke up early in the morning - and felt nothing. Got surprised, and thought, well, it will return. But it didn't. Also the low blood values changed gradually, the last years my values have been as high as it can be.

My diarrhea got gradually better, my cramps, my restless legs, my joint pain and best of all: my partial obstructions got better and better. All in all, most of my symptoms adjusted to the better within a year, some of them very fast, others needed more time. Lucky for me the worst symptoms to deal with dissapeared at first.

cannynancy- have you considered to stay on a gluten free diet, just for a month to find out if this could help you? also- avoiding sugar could help....just a little thought, many Crohnies have trouble with flour, and staying gluten free for some weeks will tell you if gluten could be bad for you.

I get less diarrhea if I cut out gluten and cut sugar.....and I know that many other does too, so why not?

Remember ldn is not a quick fix and definately not a cure, but then again, many other Crohns meds also takes time to work, and after all LDN is NOT coming with big time side effects. It's also supporting your immune system so that you may avoid getting other far more serious diseases than Crohns. We're so vulnerable while having Crohns or U.C, helping the body taking a combination with milder meds like asacol or pentasa and LDN could stop your Crohns progression and give you mild inflammations instead of the hard ones with a lot of other complications included.
