After avoiding the big guns for as long as we could, my boy had his first loading dose of Remi on the 18th of January. He will have his third dose Feb 28. in the 5 1/2 weeks since the first dose, he has gained 10 lbs. we are hoping to see a growth spurt soon. even off of the meds(other than 4 months of LDN) he managed to grow an inch in the last six months, so we are hopeful. Remi weight isn't like steroid weight is it?

I am glad things are going well with the Remicade. To my knowledge I do not think Remicade weight is like Prednisone weight.

Since you stopped the LDN with your son I did come across some interesting information, I thought you may find it interesting since one of your goals of remission with your son is for him to gain weight and grow! I was doing some additional research just about a month ago and found where LDN is in a trial for a new weightloss drug. It is used in combination with Wellbutrin, the study states that both LDN and Wellbutrin have shown weightloss as a side effect so by combining the 2 drugs they are hoping to have a new weightloss drug.

So although it may have been that the LDN wasn't helping as much as it needed too, it might also be that it is hard to gain weight on LDN if it promotes weightloss as a side effect. THe percent of weightloss it causes is small, but for someone trying to gain weight it probably makes it harder!

When I started Remicade I was told the weight gain was from my body actually starting the nutrient absorption process again. Yay for your son!

I have read about that trial too. I am not sure whether it's naltrexone (full dose, app. 50 - 300 mg each capsule) or LDN, low dose naltrexone (which is 3.0 mg -4.5mg each capsule) they are using in combination with Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin is an anti depressant, I think.

Anyway, LDN is special....I know for sure that I personally have gained a lot on it, and I am not alone. And of course; some people are losing weight on it. You never know, LDN is always working on an individual level.

LDN may lead to a weight loss if you suffer from any side effects while using it. One of the side effects is provocating candida overgrowth, which automatically will lead to increased diarrhea and weight loss. An other side effects can be nauseau that could occur the first weeks on LDN. (seldom, anyway)

You need to get rid of the overgrowth by using a proper medicine against candida overgrowth. Candidiasis is not easy to get rid of. If you google candida and LDN, you will find different treatments suggested.,

I am glad your son is doing better and is gaining now. I hope that he is able to use LDN in the future without any problems. You could always consider some milder maintainance medicine in combination with LDN later. Asacol is one of the meds possible to mix with ldn.

A teen with an attitude? That never happens does it? I think that the attitude is just as good of an indicator of his health as the weight gain. Great news for you guys I am really glad to hear it. The next 8 years or so will try your patience and test your Dad skills. I sure don't won't to do that again with my kids.

The information I read about the combination of Wellbutrin and Naltrexone used a dose of 10 mg of Naltrexone I think, so not quite LDN, but not the full 50 mg pills either. I have not been able to gain weight but I don't think it has to do with the LDN because when I stopped it for a couple months, I didn't gain any weight then either.
