Starting Wellbutrin Tomorrow...For Crohn's

I've been prescribed Wellbutrin for both moderate depression though I am hopeful it will have an effect on my Crohn's. Another poster here swears that it put him into remission. It supposedly has anti-TNF properties. My concern is that it seems to act like a stimulant, and I have trouble sleeping as it is. I tend to be more high strung to begin with and panic-prone. I will be taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL for 3 days and then onto 300mg XL daily. It seems that many people say to take it in the morning but if it reaches a steady state in the bloodstream I can't imagine the time would matter much.
When I have chronic sleep deprivation I suffer from headaches and my Crohn's usually flares.

You may want to do a search from the old post a few months ago, but the people that had such great success for their Crohn's took the immediate release Wellbutrin, 100 mg pills 3 x a day. The poster who is quite familiar with it stated that the sustained release and extended release have shown to not have an effect, they don't know why but success is always with just Wellbutrin, not SR or XL.

Not sure if there is a difference between them for depression. But may be worth asking your doctor if you are hoping to see a positive effect on your Crohn's.

Thanks, I will report the results on this thread. I did have the doctor change the script to the immediate release form.
Too bad, as I found info that the immediate release form is associated with a higher incidence of seizures, and also has higher peak plasma
concentrations and may cause more insomnia than the xl version because of the dosage timing.
I hope to thank Ubob when I become the 7th patient in a row that he knows to achieve Crohn's remission from Wellbutrin!
Ubob, I'm curious if there how long it took for these patients to be in remission, and if there is any supporting information on the
better success of the immediate release form for Crohn's?

Are there any Crohnies on this site that personally found remission through Wellbutrin? If there are no published studies,
is it a rumor or fact that the immediate release form works and the XL does not?

I'm scared to use the immediate release Bupropion 100mg 3x/day...because I need Xanax for the insomnia and the combo greatly increases the risk of seizure, whereas there is a lower risk with the extended release (Wellbutrin XL 300mg 1x/day).

There are no studies to my knowledge, Wellbutrin is kind of like low dose naltrexone, it is an off-label use of a drug. I think personal experience from people is all we have. From previous posts on this subject, I remember a few people with UC and Crohn's commenting they have taken Wellbutrin XL or SR for depression and saw no change or effect on their UC or Crohn's. And all the patients that UBob knew that had success were taking the immediate release.
