I noticed this evening that my son's big toes looked quite red in comparison with the rest of his foot. I felt his feet and they were cold, except for his big toes which were hot! Has anybody had this experience? He is taking 6mp, flagyl, and pentasa. I'm thinking that it's uric acid buildup from the 6mp since he is probably not drinking enough water. Any thoughts??

Do his toes burn or itch? I have trouble with my big toes (and a couple of smaller ones) because I got them very cold almost to the point of frostbite years ago. Now every time my toes get cold they will swell up and get angry red and itch and burn. It's called chilblains. Google it and click on "view images" and you can see some pictures. Other than that I have no idea what it might be from. Hope this helps.

Thanks Squattie....what you describe sounds very uncomfortable!!! His toes don't itch or burn, and it's a balmy 75 degrees here, so not temp. related. Maybe it was just a fluke....they seemed better today. Thank you.....I'm about
to look at those images!

When I came off the steroids after my ileo operation I developed gout. Very shocked as was 20yo female not known for her port drinking or rich eating! They think it was a reaction to being on the steroids for so long, painful for few weeks then went away and never had it again.

I think I agree with Julia Hill. I think you need to describe this to his docs, as Flagyl can have some serious side effects. Hugs!
