I am new, thus not sure if this book has been reviewed in this forum. I just read a 2010 book on IBD by the English Prof. John Hunter, and found it very interesting because of his approach to CD. What makes it different is that this doctor does not follow the conventional approach that western medicine offers, meaning medications; however he is a doctor of (western) medicine that teaches at the highly respectable University of Cranfield in England. He also is a consultant physician at a hospital in Cambridge and an authority in IBD. Please google him.
For those that have not read the book, I think it is worth it! Although he does not exclude medication for some, in one sentence, he prescribes as the main approach (for people having active CD) to go on an elemental diet for 2-3 weeks until the illness goes into remission and then begin introducing food on a diet that he calls LOFFLEX (low fat, fibre limited exclussion diet) and describes in detail in the book. He claims, and I quote: "no other treatment can match these figures (he refers to 80-90% of the patients going on remission). In my opinion patients with proven CD would be wise to give the diet method a trial."
I live in Israel and plan to visit London shortly on pleasure. And while there I will for sure visit the doctor.
The book is called Inflammatory Bowel Disease by John Hunter. Look it up at Amazon.
Any comments?
