Started 6MP last night-side effect question

I took my first 50mg of 6MP last night around 9pm. I had eaten dinner so it wasn't on an empty stomach. It seems like about an hour later my stomach started cramping up and I was having waves of nausea. Is this normal? And will it go away during treatment? I couldn't hardly sleep at all I was so uncomfortable. Add to that I think I may have a kidney infection. . . not a good night. I just hope it doesn't continue to make me feel bad, I'm kind of weary of taking it tonight now :(

Dana, I never had any problems from the 6mp other than elevated liver enzymes, so I can't tell you if the stomach cramps were from that or not.  I seem to remember some others on here having nausea from it, so maybe they will answer shortly.

I took 6mp for a time. I was told to take it first thing in the morning, but when I did it like that it made me nauseous. So I switched to bedtime and the nausea went away. I think the nausea is a side effect, but am not sure that the cramps are. Maybe thats from the kidney infection?? Hugs!

I've been at 6mp for over a decade. I take it at night before bed. Sometimes with but usually without food. I haven't noticed any of the side effects you mention.

I was on it for about five months, the biggest problems I had with it was nausea and fatigue, all I wanted to do was sleep! I had to stop taking it because it elevated my liver enzymes, I was on 100mg (started with 50). If it messes with your liver you will def know it, I had right side pain that would come and go then I started itching really really bad all over and I was jaundice and the nausea was worse! Hopefully these symptoms will be short lived for you!

I had to quit 6MP (and AZA) for nausea reasons. I understand that, for most people, the nausea wears off after you've been on it for a while. So, give it some time. If taking it at night with food doesn't help, as your doctor for an anti-nausea med like Phenergan or Zofran.

Yeah, the stomach cramps could have been from the UTI, (which I verified I have today) bc my kidneys were killing me. Hopefully the antibiotic will knock it out quick :) Thanks everyone for your input, I feel a bit better now.
