I am a guy that has this disease,i have a question...I am not trying to be gross just have to ask....I stay wet all day long I am always going to the bathroom to wipe...It seems as if I am leaking from my backside...This is very strange..Does anyone else have this problem..Thanks

While I don't have this problem, I figure someone here must! And don't worry about being gross. We have Crohn's. We live with gross. So do you have a fissure or anything? I'm just trying to come up with ideas that could explain it.

It could be a fistula, which is pretty common in Crohn's. You might want to have a doc check it out.

I have this problem on occations, yes, this is gross, and it's so stressing me up. I hate to be afraid of that it could make a gross smell, but as I am trying to be in control, it seems unlikely this is happening. I have no fistula, this leaking is as far as I know a part of this disease. Just make sure that you'll bring with you some nice stuff to wipe and wash and stay fresh all the time. And of course, to be sure, ask your GI if this is a serious symptom that needs to be controlled. /the best, Bee.

I have had UC and a colectomy, newly diagnosed with Chrones as well. I do have leaky days. Usually when Im gassy. I think that it is the pressure on the bowels. I agree with Beesting, try to be relaxed about it, and when you feel soiled just go and clean up. Remember everyone has things that they deal with, try not to get down on yourself. PS! I try to pat rather than wipe, to prevent serious irritations~ good luck.

Hey sailor..not to worry pretty much everything about this oh so awesome disease is embarrassing and or simply gross...

As far as the wet feeling goes I developed a fissure this year which made me feel wet all the time because it was apparently leaking as any open wound would. This caused yeast infections on the skin and it took about 4 months to heal once I had the right stuff. It got so bad because I'm a girl and sooooo much can go wrong in that area and I ended up with my GI saying one thing and my GYN saying another... only the surgeon had it right this time. Basically you flatten out a small cotton ball and stick it between your cheeks (i promise it will stay). It will absorb any leakage and keep you dry, which after what you've been going through will feel like heaven. Also my surgeon had me use Balneol instead of wipes to help my skin heal faster. I don't know how your skins holding up but thought I'd throw in the info. He believes the wipes can be too hard on the skin and anus and Balneol is kinda like a lotion that cleans at the same time, you just add a line to your toilet paper...works wonders. 

Anyways if I'm off the mark sorry...otherwise I hope you get some relief soon...

Hey Sailor.  First off...that was far from gross.  There are some posts on here that get real nasty...but that is all part of the disease so we live with it.

As far as your concern, I think it is normal.  I am a guy also, and I have that problem every now and then.  I have been to the dr (who actually was able to notice it) and he has found nothing wrong with me and didn't even go into depth on the subject.  He is a really good doctor so I assume from his casual reference that it is a normal thing with CD.  My suggestion would be to talk to your Gastro to calm your fears.

As far as how to handle it...grin and bear it.  I tend to go to the bathroom more to just wipe.  If yours is really bad, and I know this is going to sound bad, but have your thought about Adult Diapers.  It won't get rid of the wet feeling but it will save your clothes.

Feel better and don't let it get to you.  There are a lot of worse things you could get with this disease so I will take anal leakage of some of them anytime.

I had the same problem...like others have said it could be a fistula, or it could just be leakage. What I'd do (if you're feeling adventurous) is grab a mirror and a flashlight and try and look up there and see if you can see anything obvious that's draining. I'm not telling you to look UP inside yourself, just around the hole. My fistula from what I can see is kinda like a tiny red mark. If I push around it I can actually get stuff to ooze out of it.

Try some 4x4 gauze sponges folded in half placed against your anus. This will keep you clean and from leaking on your skin. Whenever you use the bathroom, just change it out for a clean one. I do this with my rectal fistula, and works very well. The gauze is held in place by my butt cheeks and has never fallen out. I get the gauze at a medical supply store, which is much cheaper than a drugstore.

I had this problem for about 5 years, or maybe even more. I started wearing panty liners every day, last year had to upgrade to full-blown pads, even considered buying adult diapers. My leakage was caused by constipation and a very unhappy rectum. My GI told me to deal with it, so I got a second opinion. Now, after finding a new GI and trying several different medications, I'm now on a double dose of Remicade and doing extremely well. Last week I went without panty liner... something I thought I'd never be able to do again.

Sure, it's gross. It's awful. But the people on this board are a very good and understanding bunch.

Don't stop until you find your solution!

I agree with Minou about wearing liners to help with the leakage. I get the extra long panty liners and it really helps greatly to avoid any *accidents* and my husband has this problem so he is now wearing the long panty liners so he does not have to go and change his undies.

I used to stuff kleenex in my butt crack when I was worried that I might have a slight accident and couldnt' get to bathroom fast enough. It works if you have enough butt to keep it held in!!!! LOL..... I am sorry this is an issue for you. It's not easy.
