I dont know if anyone has had this happen but my GP did a bunch of labs.  One that he was concerned with was my thyroid stim test.  It showed I am at 3.95 (or may have been 3.65 cant remember exactly) he said it is normal but high normal and could show that I have an issue brewing.  He asked if I was on synthroid which I am not however I informed him my grandfather is.  My CRP as I knew from the other week was 1.2 and my sed rate was 25.  Some issues I was having in my back and hip again turned out to be that my pelvis was out of alignment again (apparently he is the 1st doc in my 32 years that noticed my right leg is about 1 inch shorter than the other (this also happens to be the leg my CD arthritis is in the most)

My doctor always do a thyroid panel. I don't know if we're more likely to have problems or not!!

Yeah I am not sure I know I read something about autoimmune diseases and thyroid as well as family history but he is the 1st to bring it up..apparently both of my eardrums are also swollen nad my lymph nodes feel "off"

I was hyperthyroid back in 2002. Did about 18 mos of thyroid meds and never had another problem. My symptoms were very flu like, had a little vertigo. Mine was caused by a med I was taking for atrial fibrillation. Good luck!

I have thyroid disease and yes, it is auto-immune also.  Both of my parents and my sister have it also.  I just take generic Synthroid once a day and see the dr. once a year and don't really have any other problems or symptoms.  Have had a fine needle aspiration on a thyroid nodule in the past, which was a weird feeling test, but really haven't had any other issues.

Last year when I was complaining of fatigue, my MD ran the thyroid tests and sent me for an ultrasound of the Thyroid but the labs were normal although the Ultrasound showed some enlargement but not enough to warrant treatment at this time. Apparently Crohn's patients are more prone to Thyroid issues as it is a fellow autoimmune issue. Another wonderful thing to look out for in the life of a crohnnie!

I am on synthyroid which my thyroid was low but after predisone it bit the dust..My doctor did tell me that CD patients can have glandular problems..I went through menopause early as well..This can also happen with an auto immune disease..

I wasn't aware that Crohn's tended to encourage early menopause. I don't know that I was all that early (50 years old - nicest birthday present I could have been given!) but it sure was easy for me!!! Thank God. I just quit. No more periods clean as a whistle. No hot flashes or any of that. Just shows to go you that the good Lord DOES look after fools! I'm living proof in more ways than one.

While my thyroid blood work is fine, ultrasound did reveal some nodes on my thyroid, one large enough to suggest an ultrasound guided biopsy. All was fine tho. Scheduled for another visual ultrasound in a year. The US guided biopsy was an INTERESTING experience. I wouldn't object to another at all. Had a great radiologist who did the procedure and the only problem was to keep from laughing at times he was such a great guy.

Interestingly, no one bothered to tell my ovaries that they weren't supposed to develop simple cysts after menopause so my did - just for the fun of it, I guess. They were found during ultrasound for another issue. One was large enough surgery was suggested but I opted to watch and wait since I had (and still don't have) any symptoms. knock, Knock, KNOCK. We've been watching it for about 6-7 years now and it is finally to a size that we may have to seriously consider surgery in a couple of years. Since I have a high grade partial obstruction not causing me many problems that they've been wanting to get their hands on for a few years I figure I'll just wait and get my money's worth w/a "two for one" surgery. *wicked grin* (I told you God looks after fools and wasn't putting in overtime on me!)

And, DragonFly, good on your GP!!! Is he an osteopath? The good ones are a real blessing. There don't seem to be as many good ones around any more as they've gravitated to becoming just medical doctors w/a DO instead of MD after their names.

He actually is a PA which I am not quite sure what the school difference is between the 2 all I know is one says md, do or pa.
