Hello everyone!!!!! So i have taken prednisone before two years ago but not too long... For the past two months I have been on 20mg of prednisone and the physical side effects have me a little blue... :(  While I love all the eating I have been able to do and the outings I can go on I am worried how long this moon face will last.... Can anyone tell me how long it took for their swollen face to go down?? thanks... why must the drug be such a love/hate drug!!!!

Sorry you're dealing with this! I refuse to take that drug now - never again after everything it put me through!!

I ahve been on it a few times and depending on how long/how much i was on dictated how long the moon face lasted. I had it the whole time I was on the drug... people always knew when I was on steroids.

thanks amolden.... I do appreciate the drug for controlling the flare ups I was having, and for allowing me to eat the best I have eaten in 3 years.... BUt yes the physical side effects are very difficult... I am 24 years old and I just do not feel or look like myself... I have gained that much weight but the moon face just makes it so much more depressing to have this disease... My husband jokes saying I have always had chip munk cheeks and that i look fine but now i feel like a chip munk on steroids... i wish people knew i was on steroids, some of my fam thought i was pregnant or had teeth pulled out!! lol.....

I know how you feel. I don't remember how long it took for the moon face to go away after I was off the drug. I assume however long it takes for it to be out of your system!

I don't think it was that long but I have a really awful drivers licence photo to remind me what I looked like with pred moonface ;) Entocort is now my steroid of choice <grin> which is much kinder all around (pun intended!).

I am like Kiwi my moonface went away pretty quickly too. But I have a passport photo to look at for years to remind me of my moonface:)

Hi Cheerypinky! I didn't get moon face when I took pred for a couple of months. Sorry that has happened to you!

What's your tapering plan?

Thank you guys for the posts.... I am on prednisone and on entocort but since i will be doing my 3rd dose of HUmira this friday, my dr will try and taper me off when i see him next week... I dont know how the tapering doses will be but I just hope my Humira works while my steroids are taken away... I actually woke up with a messed up tummy so Im hoping its not a flare....and sorry to you guys who have pics to remind you of the moon face, im lucky i just have family pics to remember this....

cheer pinky-sorry for the moonface but glad the prednisone has been working . I noticed you said your stomach was bothering you today. I have only taken 4-20mg doses of prednisone. Up until today my cramping was better but still had the big D several times a day. Today I have had more cramping and stomach noises. and D. Also not much of an appetite. In your 2 month experience, is it normal to have occassional set backs while on prednisone or should it be steady improvement. I hope you are feeling better and not in a flare.

cannynancy: i am also on 20mg of pred... It has worked almost everyday for me...I can say I have had maybe 3 bad days while on it for the past two months... The hard part for me is that I still do have a great appetitite... Im hungry, so eating and having an upset stomach doesnt mix well.... so I guess because i cant stop eating I am contributing to the problem... I hope you feel better soon as well...
