Hi Folks:

I have now had 4 injections of Methotrexate and my main side effect is being really tired the day of receiving the injection and the day after. I have read conflicting information that you are suppose to take folic acid every day and then others saying not to take folic acid the day you receive the injection? Does anyone know the answer to this?

I am so tired can't do anything after this injection but I am wondering does this get better with time?

Any suggestion would be most welcome.

Mary, I took folic acid every day for the first year and then my GI said I didn't need to take it on the day of the injection. I think the reasoning is that it is not effective with the injection but don't think it has any adverse effects.

I sometimes think I don't sleep the night I take the injection but do take it late at night and sleep is somewhat of an issue with me anyway.

Thanks for letting me know that, it seems the day of the MTX injection and the day after I am so tired. But I have read a lot about MTX, I do not like the hair loss which I haven't experienced yet because it is probably too early but then I read about Remicade and it seems there are more serious side effects with that. The dr's told me if MTX doesn't work they will be putting me on Remicade. How well has MTX worked for you?

My dr. had me take folic acid every day when I was still on mtx.  Never had any side effects other than elevated liver enzymes, so I had to stop taking it.

I have had no side effects or hair loss so far. I had a stricture in my colon before I started Methotrexate and although it did help some, after many tests it was determined the stricture was made up of scar tissue. I had a resection and stayed on the MTX. Colonoscopy a year and a half later showed no active crohns.
