Liver enzyme high.

Hey guys. Got blood work to check my liver enzymes before starting 6MP. They were slightly elevated. Do you think that could be from the Cipro and Flagyl?

I've been on 6MP for over 12 years. My liver tests come back high every once in a while. Then the next time, its right back down. At one point I did have a liver biopsy to make sure everything was OK and I did have a fatty liver, from the disease. But because my numbers always return to normal, or pretty close. My doctor isn't too worried. I might suggest that you get a second test, just to see what it is. One time I had blood done on back to back days and the difference was huge. No real explanation for it.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I'm not overweight, but I was a little chubby as a young teenager when I was first diagnosed. I figured the same thing. I'm going to get it done on Monday again to see if it's normal. I'm not worried at all really, just wanted to see if anyone has experienced the same thing before. Thanks for the replies guys.

I too am overweight and have a fatty liver. My liver enzymes are often affected by medication. At my worst a hepatitus type illness. Sometimes antibiotics affect my liver sometimes they dont.

I just got out of the hospital for the same reason my liver enzymes have always been high but this time I became jaundice, my urine turned dark, and my stools almost white.I also had vomitting and fever and chills 2 weeks before this started just thought i picked up a stomach bug.Sunday i was told to go to ER after i called the doctor on call and spent the week in there.I did an ERCP where they DX'd me with PSC and put a stent in and cleaned out my ducts and took some biopsies. That thursday while in the hospital I had an endoscopic ultrasound done due to mass on pancreas and lymph nodes swollen. Psc is seen in under 5% os patients with Crohns disease or Ulcerative colitis. The only treatment is liver transplant.So if you continue to have problems ask them to do Ct scan with contrast and check your ducts.Better safe then to not know and let it get as bad as mine did.

Mine was elevated a bit one time. I had some kind of stomach flu and took a pain pill for the pain. They said that could have made it rise. Or just the Crohn's in general. They didn't seem that concerned. I had more blood work done a few months later and it was back to normal. So who knows, I think our meds can certainly play a role though in that.
