Nope. Not young at all. Many people are diagnosed in their teens, or younger.

I was 13 years old when I found I believe. Maybe I was 12. Eitherway, it was while I was very young. Even babies can be diagnosed with it. It's becoming more and more common throughout the world. I'm assuming you've been diagnosed with crohn's. Just because you are diagnosed with it, doesn't mean you've been given a death sentence. Many people live with their crohn's in remission their entire lives. There are also people who end up getting surgery. It all depends on how you react to the medicine. Good luck!

Crohn's is not contagious. To find out how different foods are working for you, keep a food diary, including comments about
how you feel and what your bowel movements are like (frequency, consistency, urgency).

I have lived with this disease since I was 18 yrs old and I am now 53 (almost 36 yrs). I once enjoyed a nearly 20 year remission, my mistake during that time was not staying on my meds. Suffered alot because of my disobediance.
As for diet, its very individual for each of us. What one can eat, another can't. My suggestion is to keep a food diary so you can keep track of what agreed and what didn't. Good luck!

I was 18 when I was officially diagnosed (21 now) but definitely had symptoms for at least two years prior to my diagnosis.
Everyone reacts differently to all foods! You will just have to experiment and find out for yourself. It's all trial and error.

I got diagnosed at 23 as well (almost a year ago). Same as Riddle, I had major symptoms for about
2 years prior, and a minor symptom going back into my early teens. Had a couple surgeries in the bum area, so the surgeon sent me to a GI doc, who made the diagnosis.
Food wise, yeah, like everyone else has said, it's really specific to you and your body. I can eat popcorn without a problem, but eating fiber-rich foods "binds me up" so to speak! My biggest problem with foods (other than not having an appetite very often) is that I tend to throw-up a lot. I can't eat movie theater popcorn anymore (except one theater that's now across town) because I throw up when I do!

21 when I was officially diagnosed last August 2010. But like others, I had symptoms on and off for the year or maybe even 2 years prior that I was kind of in denial about
and tried to ignore. My GI said most people get diagnosed in their 20s.

My daughter had it when she was 16, but she didn't get correctly diagnosed until she was 18.

I was diagnosed at 16 after a really bad flare, but my parents have come to believe I've had Crohn's since birth. From what they describe, it certainly sounds like it.

I too was in my early 20's when I got sick and that is still too young to get this awful disease, granted there is no good age to get IBD anyways, but definitely the younger you are when you get it the worse...it breaks my heart when I hear of toddlers/babies and young children being struck with this horrid disease more so than any other age of course but regardless, getting it period is the pits and so sad.

I was diagnosed when I was 19. I had been having problems for about
3 or 4 years before that.
Unfortunately, I don't think this disease knows any age limits :(
