After searching through web page after web page, I finally stumbled upon this forum which seems really helpful. So I joined :) I am currently in the process of being investigated for IBD and I was hoping if I could share my story, people could comment on what they think.
I am 23 no and my symptoms began about 18 months ago now. I had diarohhea, with terrible urgency, which could last all day for most days. I did have sickness, although I wasn't sure whether this was from the pain in my abdomen as it was so intense. The pain was so bad some days I would tremble, the colour would drain from my face and I would almost pass out. I can't explain the pain but if labour is any worse then I guess I won't be having children! This continued and I don't know why I didn't seek help at first, I guess I just thought it would pass. So I had these symptoms for over a year and eventually went to see a doctor. He gave me tablets for IBS (which is what I thought this was originally) but nothing changed. I was going to go back to the doctors a couple of months ago to tell him they were not working when suddenly my symptoms dissapeared. I had no symptoms (apart from it sometimes being painful to pass) for several months.
Just when I thought I'd be OK I had another bout of diarohhea lasting for about 6 weeks with similar symptoms although the pain was not as severe. This has seemed to ease off now but I have lots of mucus in my stools and sometimes after I pass solid stools, I can't stop going to the toilet and so it becomes diarohhea. I went back to the doctors and had a blood test which was fine but would anything show up when I'm currently not having any symptoms? The doctor said I could have some other test at the hospital if I wanted but he said it could be quite uncomfortable (I'm not sure what it was). I'm just worried if I'm tested when I have no symptoms, what if they miss something?
Sorry for the long post! hope somebody can offer some advice/ similar story. Nice to meet you all, Mia x
