OK so I have proctitis and my doc gave me these Rowasa enemas. I've never done an enema before. I am desperately trying to put this in correctly but I must be doing something wrong. Is it supposed to drip out a little bit as your putting it in? Also, how much of the bottle is supposed to be used. It seems like I can only squeeze so much out, yet there's still a lot left in the bottle.

Chrissy- I make it a point to gently squeeze out all the air before inserting tip into rectum. I insert the tip all the way to the base of the bottle to avoid any dripping out. Then I have to squeeze the bottle and actually fold it up while still squeezing it to thoroughly squeeze all the contents out. The bottle should be as empty as you can get it. It requires a little work but I find that squeezing out the air makes the enema much more tolerable. Good luck!

Yes, I agree about the air. I just learned that trick here on the forum recently after using these enemas for the last 10 years.

I use it at night before bed and then lay on my left side to cover as much of the lower colon as I can.

To help ease it in i used some lube....and yes there will be some leftover in the applicator...you really cant get it all in......I also ran the bottle under warm water for a minute or so to warm up the liquid so its not so cold going in....hope you feel better..
