Crohn Newbie prednisone question - fadigue or boost?

Hey dear battle partners,

After 2 or so years of Remi and some small flares, I finally had a "better" one. Actually, I was abroad (in LA) in a seminar. I was feeling bad, but travelled anyway. Then, sent a cry for help by e-mail to my doc, who answered me, thankfully in a couple of hours, with the veredict - 60mg of pred for start. Thank to my SOS bag, I have pred anywhere.

So, here I am, tomorrow going to 50mg and so on, as you know.

I feel a need to rest, as a crohnie, but my sleep quality was depleted. I know we experience different responses (my crohnie sister, sleeps a lot, even with steroids).

How do you feel when in pred (besides the increasing apetite :), and moon face)????

I've never felt anything. it doesnt make me sleep more or any less Ive never really heard that. But again Ive been taking prednisone for 8 years with the crohns basicallly the whole time and before that I took it off and on for my Asthma also. but I dont even get moonface. Sometimes my apetite will increase but not even that happens ALL the time

I get euphoric and after a while at a high dose did experience some insomnia.

I have been on Pred. a dozen times.  starting with 60mgs.  It makes me wired.  Then i also have a hard time sleeping, so my doc gave me a sleeping pill perscription.  I wean down by 5mgs a week.  Good luck to you.

In UK the max they tend to prescribe is 40mg and on that I am wide awake and loads of energy. My husband has before found me cleaning the house at 4am as I am wide awake and bouncing off walls with the excess energy.

Last time I was on it, I felt like the Incredible Hulk. I could go from being perfectly normal to insanely angry and wanting to fight with everyone at the drop of a hat. It made me really, really cranky and I pretty much stopped sleeping when I was on 40mg. It was horrible. I had to use Unisom to sleep for 3 hours... Definately did not believe in 'roid rage until I went through that. It was AWFUL!

Stripey that is funny! My old doctor used to ask me, is your house all cleaned as a benchmark for when to start my wean, and my best friend, who used to live behind me, wanted to give me her house key so I could clean her house at night! But seriously, I would not be able to sleep more than a few hours after a few days on a high dose. I always ask for a script for a sleeping pill. If the dose is high enough and long enough, I also ask for Ativan for day time use, because other wise I can literally feel the blood coursing through my veins. But, it is the drug I love to hate. It WORKS for me to get things under control, and FAST!

Sometimes it gives me great energy and I am a busy bee. Other times I have felt more tired. Wierd, huh??

But I refuse anything higher than 40 mg. To me 60 mg is just overkill. At 60mg I get too many side effects, and starting at a lower dose like 40 mg doesn't give me as many side issues as the 60 does. Also, to avoid the insomnia issues, I take it as early in the morning as possible. Hugs!

Right now, im feeling somewhat wired! And it does work. Just ate a duck at lunch, cake, coke, with no issues. It's been a long time before eating something without major worries (minor worries still applies).

Dude I love prednisone , to bad it has so many side-effects . when I take large amounts of it
, it makes me feel like I'm the king of the world . It's like you feel alive , like you could beat
down 50 men in a fight . The super fast heal rate of wounds . The only draw back to this thing
I've ever had is DO NOT cold turkey this drug , if you do lock your self in a room for a few days and
don't come out . Moon face plus acne ... bah a small price to pay to make your self feel like superman smilewinkgrin

Yeah. I can relate.

It's like radical sports. Full of adrenaline, but has risks and a price.

In the risk theory, you can call it "Risk Apetite".
