Hi im new to all this but i have this pain in my right handside right down the bottom its constant pain but gets more painfull when touched i no thats where my crohns is worse but i have been on steriods since thursday and no improvments should i notice any yet? or is this pain for good?? thanks jenny

Hi there sorry that your having trouble. Steroids generally work fairly quickly. The pain shouldn't be there for good though if it doesn't get better you may have to go back to your doctor if this form of med isn't working for you not everyone is the same and sometimes you have to change your meds a few times to get it right. Hope everything goes well for you and it starts to work. Hugs

What else are you taking aside the steroids to address your condition??
What exactly is your DX?

That is just a band-aid. More than likely given to you to control inflammation.
In that I mean, you can only take the 'Roids for a bout a week or so and need to come off. It is a temporary fix so to speak. But you must finish taking it for as long as directed AND NOT stop taking suddenly, which can result in death.

Pain should not be for good. Contact your DR. if you're experiencing side effects or are feeling worse. Hugs

Hi.

Its funny that you say that you say that. I've noticed more pain since I started taking prednisone last Friday, for me the pain seems to happen when my Bm's are more solid. I wonder if it is the passing of the more solidified feces against the ulcers of the ileum. This is something I will ask on my next vist on May 19.

Sometimes it takes a bit for the meds to kick in. Seems that you must have had alot of inflammation going on. And I have to dispute archiestyles comments that Pred is only for a couple of weeks. Most are on them about 6 to 8 weeks to quiet the inflammation down. The tenderness will get better once you find the right treatment for you. Did your doc also start you on any other meds? They generally put on Pred for a period of time to allow your maintenance meds time to kick in. Good luck and welcome! Hugs!

Hi no im only on pred at the mo gotta stay on them for about 6weeks then there droppin the dosage its in my colen at the moment having a test weds to see if anywhere else. My pain is weird i also found it gt worse when i started takin pred and still feeling very bloated and sore. Seeing my gasstro doctors weds to review.

Prednisone does terrible things to my stomach, they say to take it with food, I always did, it gives me gastritis so bad that that pain was worse than the pain of my crohns, I have had to be on it a few times and I can tell by the second day that I take it, it just tears my stomach up.. This last time he put me on entocort which is a steroid it just desolves in your small bowel/colon somewhere not your stomach, so it has many less side effects, maybe you could ask your doc about that if you think the pred. is irritating you.  Its so hard to tell, Prednisone really helped me though, despite some of the side effects. good luck!!

sounds like your large intestine is inflamed , kind of sucks I know . I'm not going to sugar
coat things for you , it's going to suck when you pass solids .

Is the area where your pain reddish, feel hot to the touch ?
Or
does it feel like a hard mass running up and down ?

Hi yes it does already really hurt to go toilet. Im quite swallon and having hot cold flushes. Its a pain that makes me feel sick wen u touch the spot. I no i have crohns in my colon but dont no where else as yet. Thanks

just as I thought , your large intestine is inflamed . Two weeks on prednisone should bring it
bring it down / a good masking drug to hide problems .
Make sure you keep your appointment with your doctor and do a colonoscopy .
after the colonoscopy two out of one they will follow up with a barium test (god that junk is nasty
'I don't care that even if It said strawberry on the side of it taste like thick nasty paint)

Oh before I forget stay AWAY from NSAID painkillers 98% of all painkillers have this in it now . Look
on the side of painkillers for the words NSAID if it has it in it dont get it cause it makes mucous in the GI
track , something you dont need right now . aceteminopehn (tylenol) is a good one .

Hi i have had the barium meal thats wat showed up my crohns in my colon. I only really take parecetamol as i find other pain killers constipate me which makes more pain. Just wish the pain would ease of but its not. Some days im ok then the nxt im crippeled on the toilet and cause im the only one nt really any one i can talk to as they dont understand. Thanks
