First Remicade treatment

I'm going for my first Remicade treatment on Thursday morning. I'm a little scared because I dont know what to expect. Can someone give me some insight on what to expect and your experiences. I am planning on going to work afterwards. Will I feel ok to do that?

Just had my first. The benedryl the doc gave me beforehand made me sleep through half of it, but it was completely uneventful. Felt no different walking out that coming in.

bring a book or a computer or ipod......something to keep you occupied. i usually take the day off.. i had no issues with being tired nor did i have any reactions....i just had my first infusion 2 weeks ago and ready for my second one tomorrow at 10 am...good luck rianne

I just had my 3rd infusion. I don't do anything the first half because the benadryl they give you does make you sleepy and fuzzy. I bring ritz crackers for the first half for some nausea. They first give you benadryl, then after about an hour they hang your remicade bag. Once they hang that is when I start waking up from the benadryl enough to work on the things I brought with me. I bring cross-stitch, it's one of the only times I can do it w/o my daughter around. I also have movies on my phone I'll watch with headphones, listen to music, play games, and talk with other people. One guy last week brought in his xbox to play, and another lady brings in her laptop, I've seen others knit and hand sew, sleep, watch tv, puzzles, board games. I find it relaxing.

Initial effects during iv were uneventful. It was just boring sitting there. The first time I fell asleep I guess for the whole thing but never ever got even tired ever again from it. Weird. First time I was knocked right out. Remicade works some wonders for some people. check it out!


I dont know why I said check it out. lol... I think I was going for good luck : )

How long Does the infusion take??

Daunting, mine took about three and a half hours in and out the door, and that included time waiting for the meds to come up from the pharmacy. With no reaction, it was no different than being on a saline iv for a few hours.

And bonus, the output from my abscess is already thinning. Hasn't even been a week yet and I can already see physical signs. No symptom relief yet, but seeing a change finally sure is a mindset boost.

I've had four doses so far, and really noticed some changed around the 3rd dose. The nurses are great! They are kind and will talk you through the whole thing. They take your temp and blood presure through the infusion, and if you feel "funny" at all tell them. for my 5th dose i am going to be getting some benadryl as i get really itch for a couple of days after, and i also take 2 tylenol the day of the infusion to help with the headaches i tend to get right after. But other than that it's smooth sailing. Bring something to eat, read, laptop to keep you busy, as for your first few rounds you will be there for 3 1/2 hours. We have the option to leave after our 4th infusion at the 2 1/2 hour mark, but personaly i like to stay the extra hour for the "just incase" and it's quite there. No one asking you for anything, don't have to do anything..Kinda nice. Good luck and let us know how you do

Thanks everyone. I'm not so freaked out about it now. It looks like my Dr only has my treatments every 2 months. Don't you usually have them more often at first?

Loading doses for my son were week 0, 2, 6 then every eight. I believe that's the norm.
