Entrapped Ulnar Nerve from Remicade?

I have what appears to be an entrapped ulnar nerve (pain in elbow, weakness in forearm, tingling in pinky and ring finger) and will see the hand specialist on Tuesday to confirm. I restarted Remicade last August after being off of it for a year. My GI is concerned that the Remicade may have caused this and wants to take me off of it. I want to stay on. Anyone else on Remicade experience Ulnar nerve issues?

This is such a coincidence that you are posting about this subject because I just had surgery 10 days ago for this very thing. I too am on remicade and I thought it may have played a part in it until I found out that i had an extra muscle in my arm that was causing it. Mine was so bad that my pinkie had curled up and I could barely hold on to something without my hand shaking and dropping it. Now, I have a straight pinkie and minimal neuropathy. I saw the surgeon today for my follow-up and the surgery went so well that I do not even have to do physical therapy. I also have ulnar entrapment on my other arm and probably am going to be having the surgery on it soon to remove the muscle. I also had the ulnar nerve moved to the other side of the elbow and it has not been a very painful experience. My incision is about 5 inches long but I honestly have had hardly any pain compared to my other surgeries. If you are worried about the surgery, I would highly recommend it. I would be happy to answer any other questions that you have.

I also had ulnar nerve transposition surgery but the entrapment was due to a dog bite and scar tissue. I was not on any medication at the time and wonder since you you have large scars on your elbow if that may be the cause of your entrapment, scar tissue. I am not a Dr. but Remicaid doesn't sound plausible to me but scar tissue at the elbow certainly does. I would go for a second opinion before getting off Remicaid. Good luck!

Most people with Ulnar Nerve entrapment can actually solve the problem through physical therapy and sleeping with their arm wrapped up in a towel so it does not bend. It is when it gets to the point that it is going beyond neuropathy and affecting the muscles that surgery is typically done. My pinky was so bent that my surgeon honestly thought that I would never get full use of it back again but had to do surgery inorder to stop it from progressing. Fortunately, my finger has already straightened back out for the most part and I am getting more function every day.
I have to tell you that I honestly think that your remicade has nothing to do with the nerve entrapment. Something has to be pushing on the nerve and the remicade would not cause that. Mine was caused by arthritis and an extra muscle in my elbow that they removed. It had nothing to do with my remicade infusions. You had not mentioned that you had had a previous surgery on your elbow and that would make a lot more sense than the remicade. Anytime you have surgery, you are at risk for developing scar tissue. There is a great chance that you have scar tissue that is pushing on the ulnar nerve causing you to have your symptoms. Has your doctor even considered that?
